Default N54 2007 335i coupe ticking noise - 01-07-2019, 04:05 PM

Hey guys I just bought this 2007 with 94000 miles and it's a MT. Does anyone know what this ticking noise is it started on my way back home. It is constant but when coming of the gas you can really hear it. 2007 335i N54 ticking noise - YouTube

I already know it needs new spark plugs since on the drive back the throttle became choppy and the guy said it needed new ones my ses light is on as well. It's dinan stage 3 and my creator BMW obd2 reader wouldnt even give the options to read for engine codes is this because of the tune.
Sorry if it's confusing this is my first post

Buddy, if you bought this car without doing any research you're in for a rude awakening. N54s have problems with hpfp, waste gate rattle, turbos, valve cover gasket issues, among other things. I'd suggest you go and research more about this car before just jumping on a forum and hoping someone to answer all your questions, if you're not mechanically inclined I hope you have deep pockets or just keep the car stock or buy an aftermarket warranty with the car so in case you have issues you'll get it fixed by someone without paying a ton of money. Otherwise these cars can handle power and make good power easily once you fix everything lol. Take some time to research.

I've actually done lots of research on the n54 and have done all mechanic work on my last BMW I already know the fragility of the engine and bought it for the rewards out way the cons. Ik the hpfp has problems and already made sure it was replaced prior coming from an e46 330ci I just am lacking knowledge on the turbo side of things.

The engine isn't the issue, it's everything around it. If you've done alot of research then you'd know already that most people have just replaced turbos, there is a recall but you're most likely out of that recall period, and know that JB4 has a setting to minimize that sound. Having mechanical experience also means you know how the fundamental engine works with and without a turbo.

If the ticking noise was not when you bought the car and started after, i recommend you to change the vacuum lines.

This is misinformation, he's having hardware issue, he's not going to all of the sudden just need vacuum lines to cure his waste gate rattle LOL

Yeah idid more research and I think I'ma go for a twin upgrade while I'm at it and I pulled codes with my phone using obd2 to usb on the mhd app and am getting a cylinder 4 misfire aswell as a the battery seems to be dying so I'll have to get a new one and reset the system so the alternator won't mess it up. Thx for all the help again man I appreciate it.

Are you actually misfiring or do you have a stored misfire code? If you changed your plugs and you have the Delphi coils, then your culprit could be a leaky injector which does happen. You'll need to code the battery not just reset it as well. I also do not recommend a twins upgrade as alot of people tend to have issues with hybrids. Single turbo would be more of my recommendation but that's just my opinion. I'd line out all your issues first.
