I am having a terrible time trying to connect my Jb4 to my laptop. I have tried 2 different comps neither will connect. I have double checked the ports and the connection to the jb4. However, it always fails. I did notice i don't have a status bar athe bottom of the application. I downloaded the generic interface that is on the link. Anyone have this issue? Anyway to solve it?

Maybe a faulty cable, or 2580 chipset on the JB4 board? It's possible to static zap either. If you're sure the com port is setup right (drivers installed), and it's still not connecting, email us and lets try a new data cable.

Email sent, the stage 1 tune makes great power but there seems to be a lot of hesitation and choppy acceleration. Hope the updates fix these issues.

Make sure that you have the cable plugged into the OBD II port.

I put an exhaust on yesterday and messed with the obd2 plug. I guess it wasn't hooked up to the right plugs. all fixed.

Can someone speculate the similarities of 100 octane unleaded race gas (VP100 or Trick 100 from local pumps) and E85 in relation to the fuel reqs listed on page 1 of this thread?

Im thinking that to achieve an "E30" mix in a full tank would need more like 65/35 of 100/91 since the octane of ethanol is so high. OR, would I need straight 100 octane? (getting mighty expensive here!)

...trying to see how much 100 i need vs CA 91 in a full tank to be able to safely run (attempt and log) the 6psi maps on a RS.

Thanks!

You should be able to use the ethanol calculator to figure out your mix. But you will need to test any E85 that you use to see the actual ethanol content since it varies so much between stations and seasons.

This calculator is very nice - thanks for sharing! Although we all need to factor in the residual fuel in the tank when filling up, this will help take out some of the guess work. Now it’s time to keep an ethanol tester handy to see what Valero’s E85 actually has in it. Any suggestions on easy to use / store testing models ?

Quick question. I have the JB4 on map 6, with a max of +4 at 3k-5500 rpm then tapers down. But when I hooked it to my computer tonight I noticed the boost safety was at 3.0. Does this mean I am not going to go over 3, even though its set at 4, and I need to increase the boost safety? Or will it go to +4 like I have it programmed? Thanks.

Check post #2 for more details on JB4 Maps.

JB4 Maps:

Map0 - JB4 disabled
Map1 - 4psi peak
Map2 - 5psi peak
Map3 - User Adjustable fixed boost map (similar to Stage1) where “boost safety”
setting on the user adjustment page determines boost added across the power band
Map4 - Stock boost with CANbus active for data logging
Map5 - 6psi peak
Map6 - User adjustable by RPM map using settings on user adjustment page. A
setting of 5.0 would request 5psi over stock at that specific engine speed.
Map7 - 7psi peak

I know that. My question is do I need to change the Boost safety to match the amount of boost that I programmed?

Roger that - with a JB4 when Map6 is selected, the Boost Safety Value is ignored in favor of the user adjustable boost by RPM settings. The Boost Safety Value only comes into play if you select Map3.

Donnie does the app development for us. What do you mean naming of map slots?

Like instead of just Map1, map2 etc...

I could overwrite with 4psi, 5psi, Custom 3,4,5,6,5,4 psi, stock, etc.

My memory gets a lil iffy for which is which when I'm changing fuels often and choosing slots wisely. The wife doesn't remember which is which either when she goes to get gas and has no torco or race fuel nearby.

Sorry if it sounds so minimal. Just a nice aesthetic to have a label. First world problems! Thanks.

Terry, does the Q50 have anymore room for performance on the jb4? Like more possible boost?? More mods with the jb4?

I'm personally debating JB1 v JB4 right now. Not planning to do any custom tuning, just use it as a "set it and forget it".

I assume that both JB1 and JB4 will both only give my RedSport +3PSI. I have seen mentioned that the JB4 without the laptop/BT adapter is basically JB1 but "smoother". Has this been shown on a dyno? Or just in logging? Is JB4 worth the extra $100 over JB1 just for the "smoothness"?

It's easy to start with the JB1 then upgrade to the JB4 later if you decide you want more than the JB1 offers.
