Smile Help picking clutch ???? - 02-07-2017, 12:38 PM

Hey Folks,
Long and short version to this post. See 2nd paragraph for long version.

Short version- Doing a 600 HP ish build. Planning to go with pure stage 2 turbos. The car needs a new clutch and flywheel (143k on the originals ) . I am having a problem trying to pick between a Spec stage 2+ or 3+ (other options are welcome). I will be driving this car in Chicago stop and go traffic about 40% of my time. I don't exactly beat on my clutches. basically looking for one that will hold the power and give me some life out of it

It's been a while since I have been on here. Been lurking around quite a bit lately. Quick back story I am the original owner of this 335xi. Ended up giving it to my younger brother about 5 years ago when I upgraded. Since I gave it to him he was running fbo minus meth. Unfortunately he recently passed away 2 month ago and I found my self back with the car. Since I don't have the heart to sell it. Before he passed he was in the middle of doing a 600 hp upgrade. I am basically picking up from where he left off.

Sorry for the long post

It wont hold the torque of the upraded turbos unfortunately..

They say stage 2+ is grossly underrated and has a thicker plate/friction material in comparison to the stage 3. So essentially with more 'meat' it should last longer as long as it hold the power.

FWIW Shiv apparently had a stage 2+ on his car many moons ago and it held up ST levels of power with a heap of drag launches on slicks

Pures are a bit behind the game.

Consider gc lites.

If you only use pump fuel a 550i clutch should hold and cheap to upgrade.

Otherwise get a 2+ spec

Thank you.
I'm going to running stock fuel system for about a month or so. I want to make sure everything is gtg before I really crank up the boost. Spec stage 2+ it is.

I'll have to take a look at the GC lites.

I think you will be happy with either spec option. I have the 3+ and it's a little grabby, would probably suck in stop and go every day. I've heard the 2+ is amazing to drive and way underrated.

I think the 2+ is a better option. Because when I am traffic. It is bumper to bumper.

It could also depend on your age/attitude towards cars. When I was 20 I wouldn't mind the 3+ at all in traffic, now at 30 I would want to die having to DD a 6MT

What's the threshold for 550i clutch vs spec 2+ vs 3+?
