Default PR Coils and jb4 - 01-04-2019, 09:23 AM

So i had the JB4 on my '14 435i tried to add PR coils. Car would run fine for normal driving as soon as you open it up around 4500- 5000 rpm the jb4 would freeze up and the car would start to misfire and goto limp mode. Reinstalled the Stock coils Car runs fine. Removed the jb4 and threw the MHD stage 2+ tune on and Reinstalled the PR coils they work fine. Any Idea why the jb4 would act up like this. Its so bad that i cannot een get a log with pr coils and jb4 both installed.

There are specific parameters that are altered when people install the upgraded coil packs

It’s under options in MHD - check the upgraded coil box prior to flashing the BEF

I did that bud. I talked to pr. They said you can also not check that and that the coild will still function fine they just do not produce as much spark that they are about the same as stock coils the check only change the charge time for the coil by miliseconds. But i did try both ways..

It's not like you are running Full E85. In my opinion you have something else going on, or those "upgraded" coil packs are doing you a disservice.
You are also comparing apples to oranges. You can't expect to get the same results with different tunes. Post up a log demonstrating the issue, and if all parameters look good in the logs, then I would honestly return or give those upgraded coils to someone else.
Quite honestly, if your spark is jumping the gap, then that is sufficient. I honestly don't believe you will find a dyno difference between those two coil packs with the same tune and same settings.

I am running full e85 and the purpose of the coils is to take one more step to putting the Stage 3 turbo on the car. reguardless there is no reason anyone can give me as to why the coils would cause the jb4 to crash. That why in the first post i said with them installed it wont even let me log as soon as i go WOT and the PI starts to spray the jb4 crashes

Coils are a passive device and do what the ECU, not what the JB4 tells them to do. All your various tunes can do is persuade(indirectly) or directly control the ignition timing. Based on what others have encountered, I am not convinced the JB4 is causing PR coils to have misses. I would look at people running similar setups, and comparing their logs to yours. Just a guess, but I would look at AFR, Ignition timing, IAT, all of the obvious things.
Quick google search gives this.. another parameter to be looking at.

Beyond the miss... What would you think would cause the jb4 to crash with the pr coils in vs stock coils it works fine. it freeze like its tring to log and just hang and put out a log with no stats what so ever. usually have to press end long 10 times to get it to stop.. i've tried it on 3 different devices with the same effect. JB4 freeze and i cant get a log to compare.

Some customer had this issue, something with the coils kicking back power to the JB4 mobile adapter crashing it. He ended up going back to the stock coils.

JB4 mobile adapter is on the red wire on the JB4 harness?
