Default Will 235/40/18 & 265/35/18 tires work stock sport wheels? - 05-09-2013, 07:06 AM

Will 235/40/18 & 265/35/18 tires work on stock sport wheels?

I've seen different thoughts on it, but wanted to ask the question to see what some people have to say about it.

Is there a need for spacers for the rear with a 265 tire?

I've wondered about 265/35/18 tires on stock sport rims as well in the rear.
Simple mount and drive or is there more to it?

I've heard both ways. Some say stick to the 255, since its a 8.5 rim. Others say they've done the 265 without any issues. So I guess it's a toss up.

I am running Michelin PS2 235/40/18 in front with no rubbing or any issue.
265/35/18 should be fine for rear as long as you have sports package rims.

Yesterday I installed 275/35/18 Conti DWS on the rear. I also have H&R lowering springs all around. I am running VMR VB3 8.5" wheels. No rubbing at all! However, there seems to be pretty dramatic body roll in the rear now

It's not bad when taking a single turn but if you were to try and slalom I could see it getting out of hand quick...

Yeah,....since you widened the tire 20mm and stayed with the same "35" series profile, the effect was to raise the overall sidewall tire height. Which will increase rear end sloppiness causing you to feel the roll.

I am running 265 on stock sports rims. No rub, no issues, and it looks cool. However, since the tires are wider than the rims, you will get the "wobble effect" during cornering and hitting bumps. You can literally feel the car shift side to side. Makes the car very unpredictable. I would not do it again and I wouldn't recommend it to anyones either.
