Just attach the two TMAP connections, leave it on map1, and enjoy, if the plan isn't to attach OBDII. Down the road when you want to push things further attach OBDII, update to latest firmware at that time, and then evaluate the log.

@ Terry

Thank you again.

Also, once broken in I'd be happy to help explore the EWG development for you if it helps? I live in Germany so pulls on the autobahn should help. I have read through a few of these threads and assume the harness for the EWG connections are still in the development stages?

EWG is hit and miss. Fits some vehicles, doesn't others. A few have had fault codes with them. Others have them running fine. So definitely in the BETA stages at this point.

Thanks - I assume the OBD2 connection needs connected in order to see fault codes via the App?

Default So it begins - 05-02-2021, 05:10 AM

So, the 2021 M550i was picked up late last week in Wurzburg Germany - What a beautiful city I might add. I am babysitting it until 1000 miles, as the dealership told me to do than at that point I can take it over 4k rpms.

I did install the BMS wheel spacers 13m on the back and 10m on the front and boy what a difference in the stance. I sprayed them with high-heat rust-oleum in attempt to prevent rusting. It's like my 335i when I added 9.5s to the rear.

I started poking around in the engine bay and the TMAPs are very easy to get to and have 3.5 sensors.

The jb4 should be here Monday so il install it and do my best to stay under 4k rpms. Easy to do on the small german roads but the autobahn is a different story.

Thanks

Zach

@Terry. I have access to 102 octane. Can I run map2 on a m550i without the waste gate connectors connected?

As long as you have the OBD2 plugged in thats fine. Don't know how much of a gain you're gonna see though. BMW has the M550s neutered for 2021.

Yea, I have noticed that too Mike. I went to pick it up and BMW was like " we have to program it" huh - what? Anyway, wonder if that has anything to do with the neutering?

I have a 2021 M550 on order due next month, what do you mean when you say they neutered the 2021 model?

Well, I picked up my 2021 just last month and it seems that BMW/Bosch have gone out of their way to prevent any after market "flash" tuning, however my JB4, map 2 with obd2 connection seems to pep up the driving experience.

I feel like neutered means bmw factory software might have limiters set to tone down the car but I will let the professionals comment. Again, you definitely can not flash tune it although Gpower here is Germany seems to think it's not far off.

However, the car is beautiful as Brianna gray amber effect, with mocha nappa leather and "20" rims. Still breaking mine in and have not seen anything over 4k rpms

Enjoy.

The neutering is that they messed with the launch control. It can no longer launch at the 2700rpm that the older ones do. The 21s launch at 2000rpm, which bogs the motor. The advertised 3.6 second 0-60 is not attainable. Most guys are getting low to mid 4's. There are a bunch of us who have complained about it to BMW, and its starting to look like a class action lawsuit is inevitable, because they're not acknowledging or fixing it.

Mike, I have not launched yet but will the 2k rpm change at launch if you're in sport plus?

Itíll go to 2300 and then settle to 2000 I believe my dealer said. Iíve only done it myself once and didnít pay as much attention as I should have. When the Dragy said 4.58 and BMW claims 3.6, that got my attention though.

Edit: yep, dealer said 2300 then it launches at 2000.

4.58? Oh my! Are you running JB4? Sorry if you said this in the thread already. I assume you are.

Mike if you have a JB4 you should install it. The car sure pulls a lot harder and v7 software is smooth.

I want to hook up the EWG connections but have no clue where they are or how easy they are to get to.

That is crazy. They show 3.8 or 3.9 seconds for the '21 M50i I have. I guess they did not mess with the X5 as they seem to have with the M550i.
I need to get a JB4 and just see what happens.

Its not quite that simple. I'm in Escalation with BMW over the lack of performance. I need to keep it mechanically stock for now to prove that its not doing as advertised.

The EWG connections aren't hard to get to, but they are very hard to access. The plugs are on the undersides of the wastegates and unless you have tiny hands, all I can really say is "Good luck". I pulled one out to see if it was upside down and it literally took me 45 minutes to put the damn thing back in.

Mike, I take it you still need a harness to connect the JB4 connections?

Depends. The 20-21 TU3 needs the harness. From what Iíve heard, the 17-19 TU2 works with the existing harness.

I was about to order the JB4 for my brand new 2021 X5 M50i. Will all the wiring fit my vehicle?

We have been waiting a good while for adapters to allow the EWG connections to be made for this control. The other 2 connections are easy and allow the basic lower powered maps.
Hopefully Burger can tell us if these EWG adapters will ever be made available.

Agreed. I would like to know when the new EWG's will be available as well. I would like to get the whole kit and do it right day one.

I finished putting the JB4 into my X5 M50i. I did plug the OBD2 in and wonder what performance gains it really provides vs not plugging that part in? Thoughts on what it actually does performance wise besides engine gauges on my iPhone?
