Default Low boost log review - 05-26-2019, 03:43 PM

Having trouble meeting boost target, receiving 30ff. Car runs great other than low boost. I'm here with a log to see if i'm going in the right direction...
2010 535xi AT with 150,000 miles.

Here is what I've done so far.

1. New intercooler, couplers, clamps, charge pipe with Tial BOV, new manifold gaskets, TB gasket.
2. Leak test from charge pipe.
3. New vac lines.
4. New boost solenoids.
5. Boost solenoid operational check.
6. Applied vacuum using syringe to wastegates, seen/heard movement.
7. Removed JB4 still get low boost/engine light.

Does the wastegate typically rattle on deceleration? I hear something but very faint. Don't hear any rattle when revving with the hood up.

WG aren't supposed to rattle on decel- that's a sign of worn/tired WG

At your mileage- i wouldnt rule out just tired oem turbos (assuming they haven't been replaced)

Would that be checked by shaft play? The front turbo is tight. Not burning any oil.

Dropped the *** back exhaust, no change.

shaft play, rattle, tbh again at your mileage it may just be worn hardware, 150k is a lot, especially now that you are turning up the boost.

Wow, what a job! Getting that sub frame out was tough. Worried about getting the passenger motor mount reinstalled. I'd say they are worn out.

Default I'm Back! - 07-24-2019, 06:40 PM

ECS took me for a wild ride with some terrible customer service trying to get some new turbos but i'm back running again. I ended up getting RB2s and FBO. That was a big job on the 535xi but if you're considering it, it's doable by yourself on some jack stands.

Ok, so I'm back because I have an issue. I'm running Map 5. During idle I have a slightly rough idle and highway cruise I have a random stutter too. I've been kicked in Map 4 a few times with a double hazard flash which I believe is lean condition. Not sure if i'm crazy but this could be an additional indicator for the problem, the gauge sweep seems to take longer than it normally did.

I've attached an idle and acceleration/cruise log. When I look at this with my noob eyes first thing I notice is the RPM signal drops for a second randomly and I assume this isn't normal. Did some research and couldn't find anything. Would this be a JB4 issue or a sensor issue?

Usually when Turbos get swapped / ********* come off- it’s hard to rule our a sensor / hardware damaged issue.

Congrats on the rb2s btw! I trust youve uploaded the hybrid flash?

I didn’t see any value checked for 6 cyl timing either- you’ll wanna enable that too...

Can I see a normal log in say map 1 first?

I did not upload the hybrid flash.

I've installed 2 new o2 sensors. I also purchased the cable and flash JB4_IJE0S_PUMP_USA.bin. Is that the correct flash? The "hybrid" files says E85. Wasn't sure.

Set JB4 to 4/2 copied these user adjustments except for boost as it wouldn't allow me to go over 21. Copied from JB4 N54 Hybrid Turbo Setup Directions - N54Tech.com - International Turbo Racing Discussion

Went for a log, felt down on power. Log shows <6psi. No value for RPM, target and other parameters. Now I can't get it to connect or use steering controls.

I haven't messed with the JB4 harness during this ordeal. I guess I can start with checking the harness power wire?

I replugged the power cable. Seemed to fix it. Here was a quick test log. Didn't have time to get to my "spot" for full log.

Boost looks on target for most part in that short log.

Car feel down in power still?

You are using the correct flash- you can’t go over 21 psi If you have the stock tmap sensor- may be worth upgrading that- we sell the tmap / adapter kit

Car felt good. Power seemed smooth. Can I proceed to map 5 or need a full log on map 1?

I'm still getting the delayed gauge sweep. It seems as the board is malfunctioning. I have it on map 5 and it randomly wont meet boost target. When it does this I try to use the wheel controls which it will not work. The oil hijack works at all times...? I've previously went through all connections and everything was secure with no corrosion or smell. Is it possible to send in for repair? $175 is alot for a new board, just looking for a cheaper option. Thanks for all your support thus far.

You can send the board in for diagnostic if you want. Reference your order # etc

The board was definitely the culprit. I notice after 10 minutes it would shut down completely.

Bought a new board, gauges sweep instantly and all seems well. I did a few pulls on map 5 prior to this log for it to adjust. It only peaked at 15 and tapered off. Should I run map 6 to ensure I reach my target of 17 and hold to redline?

Timing doesn’t look great here, hence the lower boost profile

What gas?

It's 93. I tried to get colder plugs from BMS but I was refunded as they were on back order. Would that cause it to pull timing at that boost level? My current plugs are OEM and are fairly new.

Dave, really appreciate all your support thus far!

At your boost level, oem plugs newish shouldn’t be a big issue.

If you can get e85, 1-2 gallons would probably clean this up

Don’t mention it- glad that board got to you quick
