Looking for the RPM pin, but now its looking like I should get it from the cluster: Instrument cluster
The diagram on this link looks like the RPM is in the (KOMBI) so maybe it is not as easy as tapping a wire into an "RPM signal". Does anyone or has anyone ever tapped into the coil wires?

We get RPM from the third unused pin on the black OBD2 cable.

BMW OBD-II diagnostic interface pinout diagram @ pinoutguide.com
This diagram shows 2 & 3 pins not being used. Is this correct? and if so, I could tap that 3rd pin to readout an RPM signal?
That link above is from a diagram showing a 2001 535 so I just wanted to be clear.
However, this is a diagram from an e90 that shows pin 3 as a vendor option.
Thanks

Pin 3 on the OBD2 molex end.
You'll see a pin that's unused:

You have to excuse my understanding of the vernacular Molex. If the Molex is the pin socket interconnection and its relation to the ODB cable; couldn't I just dissect my USB to OBD and find the unused pin?
If that is the case, then how would I know where the unused pin on the USB side was supposed pin to on the OBD side?
Thanks for all the help
are you referring to this cable? https://burgertuning.com/products/jb4-obdii-replacement
if this is the unused connection then I suppose I could tap directly into that line from the vehicle.

Yes that cable.
The lower pin that is unused that I marked with the red arrow is RPM.
The green and brown wires go to were I marked.
