I've re-calibrated DCT clutches myself. Just get a free copy of ISTA-D.
Once you have that installed it's very simple and the program does everything for you.
The only hard part is downloading the massive 100 to 120 Gig application and installing it.
It's a great tool to have. Does everything you need. There are many forums with torrents to download it from.

Oh and I bought a M4 flywheel yesterday. Been looking for one for about a year.

I posted this on another thread but my experience was similar.
" A very interesting number of posts in this thread guys.
I'm now in the process of figuring out if my misfires are flywheel related as well. I'm N54, 335i on GCs.
Car has seemed happy up to around 25 psi. Near perfect timing. Timing suffering on 26 or 27 psi in 4th and 5th gear at the drag strip, often crossing the line with the CEL on due to misfires being detected in cyl 5 and 6."
I'd be quite surprised if no balancing was needed following the removal of the large weight and it would be a bitch to go back to an original flywheel. Especially if you've just used your original one in the testing.

Flywheels will be ready to ship out this week
This is your last chance to pre-order your DCT flywheel for shipment this week, otherwise, you will need to wait for the next batch (if we decide to make another). We have the following left:
3 x 6-Bolt
5 x 8-Bolt

Just curious. Do you know how the MFactory balancing tolerances compare to the M4 flywheel. Will your flywheel be better, same, or not as balanced as the M4 flywheel?
Also, hopefully you are not serious about this being the only batch of flywheels. Some of us aren't willing to commit to a product until some feedback is provided. That is at least what I am waiting for.

All of our flywheels are balanced to 12,000rpm, and because they are single mass, you shouldn't have any misfire issues.
With regards to a new batch, it really just depends on demand.
Now down to:
2 x 6-Bolt
5 x 8-Bolt

Also I broke down recently and bought a new M4 flywheel when the dealer gave me a good discount.
Couldn’t be happier, no more misfires above 6k and timing is way up now.

You do realize that MFactory has already made the flywheel and they are shipping now. So it isn't a pipe dream. It is reality.

What is not known is if the flywheel will resolve the misfires similar to the M4 flywheel, be worse, or better. Looking forward to hearing what people have to say once they are installed and running.

To be honest I'd like to see more m4 flywheel logs before and after to confirm misfires go. I won't be surprised if the issue doesn't resolve in all cases but I'm happy to have the benefits of a lighter flywheel anyway.

Technically speaking, this isn't really a flywheel, but a flexplate.
With a traditional dry clutch setup (on a Manual), the engagement/disengagement of power is achieved by friction between the flywheel surface and the clutch disc. If the clutch is engaged (i.e clutch disc is locked against the flywheel), there is power, and vice versa.
With the DCT, which is a wet clutch setup, engagement/disengagement of power is achieved by alternating the transmission of power between the two clutches (odd gears, even gears and none). This means that there is always power going from the crank to the transmission as they are physically locked together. There is a fraction of power-loss during the transition between the two clutches, but this is minute compared to the "time" it takes to manually shift between gears and a clutch pedal. As rotational mass is still required, this is the purpose of the flexplate (which sits between the crank and the transmission)
With the dual-mass, this is 2pc, allowing the absorption/damping of vibrations between the sections. Due to the size though, this is typically twice the weight of a regular single-mass flywheel/flexplate.
With a single-mass, as we are removing the additional damper portion of the flywheel/flexplate, this effectively reduces the rotational mass by almost a half!
The ECU is set from factory to fall within a specific range of values for the cam and crank speeds (i.e how fast the cams and crank turns). Unfortunately, the faster everything rotates, the more likelihood of a speed difference between the cam and crank. When the values fall out of range, the ECU picks this up and self-adjusts (to protect your engine). This is what you will pick up as a "misfire" (and CEL), but isn't really a misfire per se.
The more you change the rotational mass (be it flywheel, pulleys etc), the more chance you will experience this; there are no exceptions. However, this can be reduced by:
1) Making sure the components are precisely balanced
2) Changing your ECU settings
The keyword here being "Reduced", not Eliminate. All of our flywheels are balanced to over 12,000rpm, and weigh 7.3kg (just over 16lbs. Similar to the oem M4 flywheel)

Hello MFactory,
Do you guys happen to have a step by step tutorial on how to swap out the flywheel?
Also, do you know if the computer will need to be adjusted to account for the reduction in rotational mass?
I'm really interested in purchasing it and I'm trying to do my homework so any help you could provide will be appreciated as this will determine whether I pull the trigger and buy the flywheel.
Regards,
Fabian
