Default B58S heatsoak and Jb4 - 07-07-2018, 10:04 PM

Hey guys, I have the x3m40i. Stock this engine is great considering itís powering a x3. When I added the jb4 and bms billet intake with 94 octane l, the first 2000 Miles it ran inconsistently. After that the shifts were smoother. I didnít feel a huge increase in power. I am running map 5. In assuming itís due to the stock b58s engine being tuned by Bmw already. With these mods I ran 12.3 on the 1/4 mile. I think I made this time because all the confitions were optimal and I had wind pushing me maybe lol. Usually I run 12.7-13.2 depending how hot is my car and the ambient temp/humidity.
Is there a way to prevent heat soaking with the b58? I mean, 12.3 to 13.1 is a huge discrepancy. Also will jb4 release an update to give more power to the mppk2 engines? I find the jb4 will help a normal b58 engine a lot more than the b58s mppk2.
Please let me know what mods can help with heat soaking...

Youll need to run meth injection and/or race gas

You'd need to datalog to figure out why the car is inconsistent. There's no magic here.

Best way to determine what is going on would be to post a log for us in the support section.

Haha hey nice to see you on this forum! Can't wait for some sort of radiator upgrade for the b58 and a ******** to become available for us!

Ok I'll post some 3rd gear pulls when I can get to a safe spot!

Here is a 1st-2nd- a little bit of 3rd gear pull. Let me know what you think. I'm running map 6 at 17psi absolute. Is my timing okay? And how much can i boost safely with the b58?

Early on your AFR is mighty lean even for this motor - especially at redline. Maybe that’s normal at red but it’s reading in the 22:1 range. Yikes. Probably because it was 1st gear pull. Your 2nd/3rd gear pull had a brief nice run there and it appears you eventually hit your 17psi target but I wonder if you have the octane from seeing that timing curve. Someone with more experience can advise you better, but I would drop target to 16 and try some longer runs in 3rd, 3k to redline.

Log is too short to really see anything. That's why we recommend 3rd or 4th.

Feels okay, I find map 5 is giving more torque tho. Should I try 18psi on a b58? I also have billet bms intake and 94 octane. Can anyone chime in to let me know how many psi stock b58 can take?

You'd have to compare logs of both, side by side.

What mods are you running? EWG or FF wires? Post that into your signature.

This engine can probably take well over 25 PSI, even more. We have barely begun to start pushing it.

Your boost all depends on the fuel you are running. You probably can't run more than 18 PSI without ethanol, race gas, or meth.

I don’t have wires yet, is it worth it? I’ll try map 6 at 18 psi flat. I think my 94 octane uses 10% ethanol. I’m just scared to blow stock turbo @ 18psi.

Smooth and sustained 18 psi is going to be hard without EWG wires and better fuel, in my experience. Almost all gas in the US uses 10% ethanol these days - but that's not enough to raise octane substantially. You need E85 (some, not too much), methanol, or race fuel...
