Car won't crank/start after a successful MHD/Stock flash -
02-26-2018, 09:20 PM
So I've been running MHD stage 2 maps for a little over a year, alpina flash, and my car has been running a little off, felt shaky as i've been putting miles on it (it has 120k miles) so I decided i was going to flash it to stock and take it in to a shop. car has been running relatively well up unto this point, just took a short round trip about 350 miles and it did fine so the car has been operational. I flash it back to stock with MHD and it won't crank, flash was successful, no error codes, won't even crank just makes a mechanical sound and nothing. I flashed it to a few different MHD maps, all successful, still won't crank.
resent all adaptations, no crank
left battery unplugged for 3 days reflashed to stock, to stage 2, etc, no crank.
I'm at a loss, the car was fine until i flashed it back, every write has been successful but now it won't even try to start. Any ideas would be appreciated.
2009 335 120k miles, FMIC, down *****, charge pipe, been running MHD stage 2 maps for over a year.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Which tmap sensor do you have installed?

Check voltage on your battery. Possible the flash drained the juice and needs a jump

I had a battery charger connected during the flash and everything else in the car is working (climate control, radio, etc etc) I've charged the battery overnight with the trickle charger a couple times as well just to check.
Thanks for the input guys, really trying to solve this without having to add more expense of a trip to the shop.

Are you flashing back to a backup BIN you made from your own DME before you loaded MHD the first time, or are you using MHD's generic "stock" option?

Something similar happened to me once, when flashing a new custom mhd flash. I had to flash the tune with MHD a good 5 or 6 times before the car started acting normal again. In my case the car would start but had strange lights on the dash and errors, but drove fine. I tried flashing again and it would not start or power up afterwards. Then I tried it a few more times and it finally worked and the errors were gone. Never had a problem before or since.
In my case it was usually only giving me the option of a quick rewrite Flash the takes 2 to 3 minutes.
My advice would be to contact MHD, and in the meantime keep trying to Flash back to stock and / or the other map to get one to work.

I’d also check and make sure you didn’t accidentally check any boxes in the options menu.

Alright, flashed the car 5 times in a row this morning and it has never tried to crank 1 time, i've got nothing. I guess it's going to end up in the shop, very frustrating. no options checked.

Might be a dumb idea but couldn't it be something as simple as a blown fuse?

Any codes? Is your DME an MSD80? Almost sounds like fried DME Mosfet issue.
Dumb question but you aren't flashing a file meant for MT are you?
Has MHD not gotten back to you yet?

No codes, definitely not flashing as an MT.
MHD got back to me, said if it says flash successful it's probably a hardware issue.
Whenever I get time to setup a tow etc it's going to the shop, i'll try to take a video of the sound it makes when i try to start it, it's not a crank, not like it's turning over, a different sounds.
I don't know what DME I have i can try to lookup how to check which one it is.

ended up being the starter like people had said/suspected, just really coincidental timing. went from being completely fine to dead starter and it happened between me driving the car and deciding to flash.
