Poll: Do you drive your BMW or a Beater during Winter? -
10-03-2018, 08:22 AM
Just wondering what others on the forum do for winter time. (assume snow and salt)
Do you park your modded sweetie and drive a beater, or can you not bear part with it, even during winter months?

I have a winter beater every year... but usually it's another BMW. Have had cheaper E90 and E92 335s, some E46, an X5, etc.

We don't exactly get winters here with snow and all that - so it's pretty much BMW time, all the time ...
Except when its broken and I have to drive my old Chevy beater truck.

We have harsh winters here in Ontario Canada. I leave my 335i inside with a charger and drive my 2004 Volvo S60 T5, manual, straight piped and tuned! Its an absolute sleeper and I actually look forward to driving it. Plus its sounds like an animal.

I live in Wisconsin and I have no winter beater, or a backup for that matter. My only year round options are the 535i, or to put on them Nike's and just do it.
You can say I like to live dangerously, haha.

I drive my 135i almost every single day, winter or summer makes no difference. Unless I physically can't get it out of the driveway.

Liking the responses and poll info.
Surprised how many haul their sweeties through the slush!
I always have, but now considering a beater for the salt months.
Just growing attached to my vert. Want minimal issues.
Woot!

I drive my FBO hybrid turbo 535Xi all year round. I install winter tires and it's really fun in the snow.

In this part of the state the winters aren't too bad but up north where I grew up you have no chance in the winter without some ground clearance and awd....lots of subarus.
I sold my Xi and have a RWD car now so I drive my Cummins when the weather sucks. Too many Californians here that can't drive in the snow they always crash into each other and cause major traffic.

I wouldn't exactly call my lightly modded Escalade EXT a beater, but it's my winter vehicle, family hauler, long trip traveler and boat tower:

Well. I decided to go with a Winter Beater. Picked up an older VW. It's going to be a long and lonely winter for me!

I plan to still drive the 135 at least once a week as long as the KY roads are salt free. It's still new to me, so any excuse to drive her!
Michelin A/S are impressive these days. 0.94 g (A/S) vs 0.97g (super sport) on the skidpad
2013 328i is the daily year around.

Didn't buy my car to look at it. Drive it all year and weather. In case of deeper snow I do have an old Audi I can switch to though. If I had an M-car it might be a different story.

I drive my new winter beater - '18 340i xDrive with MPPSK and 6MT lol
I am currently getting upgraded internals for the N54, apparently the stock pistons didn't like a 38 psi pull hahaha

Well, I've garaged my 335 and am driving my winter beater until spring.
It will be convenient to work on some 335 projects over the winter, without having the rush of a DD.
-Replace shredded Serpentine belt and check for pieces that may have passed through the crank-pulley seal into the engine
-Finalize BMS WMI install
-Install RB PCV Valve
-Replace Valve Cover gasket
-Replace Oil Filter Housing gasket
-Possible FMIC upgrade
-Research replacement (non-RFT) rear tires - wanting to go to 275 or wider once the present ones have finished melting
