Did you do a stock rebuild or did you upgrade anything?

Congratulations, you made the only thread ever to be titled, "Tranny porn," that I am willing to click on.

That said, good luck!

I concur! Hope no one Google 'tranny porn' to get the reference. It's not at all car related!

Thectsc.com for the ZF parts and eBay for the Sonnax Zip Kit. I did have the converter rebuild locally and they brazed the vanes and installed new bearings and seals.

I want to see a solution for the AT tranny N54.Where you can hit 800HP without
any slippage or TC problems. DCT is doing pretty good with does upgraded
clutches(Dodson).800+.Sh*88%$#t.

I'll take one, if you got a digital copy, etc. TIA

How was the rebuild overall though? Pretty straight forward if you follow the manual?

The manual is just for reference, it is not the same as the 21. Email address?

Can you list out the problems you had and the exact parts you replaced? I'm having issues with inconsistent shifts. I was thinking of doing the zip kit and replacing all of the solenoids, but that's a lot of $$$ to spend on a hunch.

Insider ZF knowledge:

Replace your Front Stator bushing with the Omega upgraded part:

http://www.omegamachine.com/db/ZF6HP...hing%20kit.asp

The front stator bushing is what causes most 4th, 5th, and 6th gear problems. It can be done without disassembling the whole trans.

The front stator bushing is not only a shaft support bushing, but more importantly: seals oil pressure to the E clutch (4,5,6). The OE ZF bushing is inferior, the bearing babbitt fails especially with increased torque.

Our shop 135i OE bushing was worn out, with a measured clearance of .008", OE spec is .0015". The excessive wear bleeds off the much needed engagement pressure for the E clutch.

Most ZF6HP21 trans problems are caused by this bushing. But of course, trans shops won't tell you this.

How difficult is this to change? When I rebuilt my 4L80E the bushings were a nightmare, not only to remove but to put in straight, especially without a press. I used a bushing driver kit but it didn't really help.

Bushings are easy to replace. Similar to popping new bearing races in a hub. Hammer out the old with a punch, tap in the new with a bushing driver kit.

Great info! Thanks for sharing!!

Speaking of trans shops, there doesn't seem to be a notable/common name trans shop that E9x folks can rely on to send their slush boxes to for refresh/rebuild services.

Do you guys at Pure do this work and/or can you recommend a shop that we could send our auto transmissions to for reliable service? Even if someone could offer a nice rebuild + core option and knew what they were doing (by using upgraded parts such as the bushings you mentioned above, etc.) I think it would prevent peeps from having to take a gamble on junkyard trans options when their stock pieces have issues in the future; or even worse, have to rely on local shops for a rebuild which more than likely have no idea what they're doing in the first place.
