Default 2016 Lexus IS200t - New BMS toy - 11-09-2015, 04:16 PM

Hi guys,

We just picked up a 2016 Lexus IS200t for tune and intake development. It has 2.0 liter 4 cylinder turbo engine putting out 241 hp and 251 torque. Impressive numbers on paper and on par with MB C300 and BMW N20/26 engines.

I'll update this thread as we start to dig in to it. I'm curious to see what it puts down on the dyno stock. For now here are a few photos.

Curious to see what it's capable of. Definitely not a bad looking car. How does it work with the development cars? I'm assuming they are leases cause it's easier to write off?

Any updates on this? There's a massive surge of people wondering where this development is on this. Very curious and I have some questions

The IS200t pushes around 17psi max stock. Has any research been done into what the turbo can handle?

I think the BMW 2.0 twin scroll pushes around 20-21 psi stock? How do the turbos compare and will there be any substantial detriment to the life of this particular Lexus turbo if pushing more boost? Or does it look to be durable from what you've seen?

The beta tune looks to give around 25 whp/tq. Has there been any updates to the beta--in other words is more power able to squeeze out?

Has your red IS200t been running the Alpha tune the whole year or so you've had the car? If so how has it been doing? Any issues? How many test miles on it so far??

Lastly, does the tune make more power w/ the intake or is it just response that you get?

Also do you think the plastic charge pipe will hold up or should it be upgraded?

Any other info/insight as to this engine, it's capability, downfall, etc would be appreciated. Thanks Terry.

Tuning is on hold pending connectors. We've had some good news but until I have them in my hands ready to go no announcements will be made. These suppliers can be flaky.

OK thanks. Can't wait to find out what's in store. Since it's Lexus's first turbo engine, I am not sure if it will be strong enough to cope with increased boost safely and reliably. Hopefully Lexus did their homework. I do believe the internals are forged from reading stuff on the internet. But not 100% sure. The transmission can definitely handle it as it's out of the IS-F.

It shouldn't be too bad, it may be Lexus's first turbo motor but definitely not Toyotas so it shouldn't be too large of an issue.

Thanks--Excited then. Can't wait. Would like to be the first to test this out and review it for the Lexus forums. I'm guessing a tune would be 3-5psi over stock. 35 whp 50 wtq? Just something to put it up on the level of a stock 328i.

Not sure how the 328i pulls so strong with 2.0L and a similar twin scroll turbo? Exhaust/intake is larger maybe?

I don't know how they compare to each other, but understand that there are efficiencies of each system on the engine, whether that's the ignition timing system, valve timing system, fuel delivery system, reduced bearing friction, turbo efficiency etc, that all determine horse power and torque curves.

An interesting thing is this engine is going to be dumped into toyota's entire line up in the near future. Starting with the 2018 Camry. This engine replaces the V6 in the next gen camry coming next fall. So BMS should get on this quicker NOt sure how the connectors could be taking that long. Other companies already have it for almost a year now. Racechip, etc. BUt I trust BMS more so I am waiting for their kit instead of others.
