Use subject to terms and conditions posted at https://www.burgertuning.com/pages/terms

THIS PART IS LEGAL FOR USE ONLY IN COMPETITION RACING VEHICLES AS DEFINED UNDER CALIFORNIA LAW, AND IS NOT LEGAL FOR USE IN ANY OTHER MOTOR VEHICLE. California law defines a "racing vehicle" as "a competition vehicle not used on public highways." (Calif. Health & Safety Code 39048) This part may only be used on competition racing vehicles operated exclusively on a closed course in conjunction with a sanctioned racing event. Competition-only motor vehicles may not be driven to a racing event on a public highway and must be transported on a trailer or other carrier. USE OF THIS PART IN ANY OTHER VEHICLE MAY SUBJECT YOU TO FINES AND PENALTIES FOR VIOLATION OF FEDERAL AND/OR STATE LAW, WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY FROM BURGER MOTORSPORTS, INC, AND CAN VOID YOUR VEHICLE'S WARRANTY. It is your responsibility to comply with all applicable federal and state laws relating to use of this part, and Burger Motorsports, Inc hereby disclaims any liability resulting from the failure to use this part in compliance with all applicable federal and state laws.

When working with live wires ALWAYS disconnect the negative battery terminal in the trunk first. Do not attempt to install the tuner, connect the tuner box to the harness, or otherwise work on the vehicles electrical system with the battery connected. Doing this may result in a damaging voltage spike being sent to the DME.

Also be very careful when working with the BMS USB cable as it sits close to the battery rail which is a live +12v connection. Allowing the USB cable to touch the +12v connection WILL damage the JB4 and MAY damage the TMAP sensor wiring requiring the ground bypass at the bottom of the guide to be performed. Wrapping a piece of cloth tape over the battery rail connection and/or USB connection will help prevent accidental damage.

Current F Series JB4 Install Guide

Hey guys,

This thread will be used to centralize all F series JB4 information. Anything important is in the first post. The rest is 100 pages of discussion, much of which may no longer be relevant. If its not in the first post then its probably not very important.

Note: We sell two systems for the F series N55. The Stage1 and the JB4. There is no such thing as a JB4 Stage1 and no such thing as a JB4 Stage2. The Stage1 DOES NOT have updatable firmware, CANbus, or changeable maps. If you have a Stage1 system then none of the information in this post is relevant to you.

To order a new F series JB4 kit: https://www.burgertuning.com/products/f-series-n55-jb4

To avoid cluttering up the thread any support requests will be deleted from this thread without being read. If you require assistance email tech support at support@burgertuning.com.

JB4 Mobile Smart Phone wireless connection directions Click here.
BMS data cable hard wired software & directions Click here.

Map Info (selected via menu 0 in dash or using JB4 Mobile/laptop interface. Map1 is the default map)

Map 0: JB4 disabled
Map 1: Additive target, around 4psi over stock.
Map 2: Additive target, around 6psi over stock. Suggested for those with 93 octane and bolt on modifications. Also good for small E85 mixtures.
Map 3: Progressive WMI mapping.
Map 4: Stock performance with JB4 active for logging only.
Map 5: Autotuning map, absolute target of 11-17psi based on octane and conditions.
Map 6: User definable absolute target map. Suggested for troubleshooting by professionals only.
Map 7: Race gas map. Absolute target of 18.5psi. Requires straight unleaded race gas.

E85 Use

Up to 30% E85 mixtures can be used in most situations.

M2 Specific Map Settings

The M2 runs much higher boost from the factory than a normal N55 motor and thus often requires special settings. Ensure you have v13 firmware or higher, Set FutureUseD bit6 on (as if you had a back end flash map), and then we suggest starting with map2.

Firmware

Both the F10 and F30 N55 motors share the same firmware. Note models using the pneumatic wastegate, primarily 2013-early 2014 models where the JB4 harness blue patch is connected, need to use PWG firmware. Those equipped with an electronic wastegate, primarily 2014+ models where the JB4 blue batch is NOT used, need to use EWG firmware. Note for older systems POSITAP firmware (the old wire taps for brown/green wires) has been discontinued and no new updates will be done. So upgrade to the OBDII CANbus connector & firmware if you wish to run the latest firmware & features.

F10/535 in dash control

To enable the BC button menu changes on F10/535 models you must connect to the JB4 using a BMS DATA cable or BlueTooth kit and change FutureUseD bit #1 on (resulting value of 2) press save. Then turn off ignition and lock doors for 5 min to allow the JB4 to reset.

************************************************** ************************
*Special Settings For F Series JB4 EWG v14+
************************************************** ************************

Note these change by firmware version and the list below applies only to v14+ firmware. There may be some features not active in PWG integrated firmware yet.

Future Use D:
bit0 - Disable in dash BC button controls
bit1 - Alternative in dash BC F10 compatibility mode
bit2 - Disable oil temp warmup protection -- full boost target even when oil temps < 160F
bit3 - Disable wastegate/FF adaption learning for diagnostic purposes
bit4 - Disable startup gauge sweep
bit5 - Test Duty Bias Learning Algorithm
bit6 - Vehicle is equipped with a back end flash map
bit7 - Slow down CANbus sample rate - required for some vehicles with older software

FutureUseA: Negative offset to dutycycle via EWG connector to correct for over boost conditions when PWM is low

Map6: Values of less than 10psi under boost 1500rpm will cause map6 to act as an additive rather than absolute map

Firmware notes:

N55_F_PWG_INT_13:

1) Adjusted wastegate learning, FF will now remain fixed, and duty bias by RPM will automatically learn.
2) Adjusted base FF algorithm to allow a wider range of learning.

N55_F_PWG_INT_12:

1) Various changes to catch PWG integrated firmware up to current EWG firmware specifications, including a revised CANbus engine.
T2) Adjusted Map2 for those using the factory flash mapping to a 14psi peak absolute target map, similar to previous PWG integrated firmware.

JB4_F_EWG_16_TEST5:

1) Revised logic for absolute boost targeting maps resulting in smoother part throttle operation and the ability to set boost by gear values lower than the flash target.
2) Adjusted map4 to a low boost / VALET / safety map with a target of 8psi.

N55_FSERIES_OBDII_EWG_15:

1) Adjusted boost safety logic so boost safety is set to 3psi over boost target, regardless of boost safety setting. Logic is smart enough to also trigger if boost approaches TMAP sensor limit (21psi on stock sensor, 36psi on 3.5bar sensor).
2) Adjusted WGDC logging parameter so it will always show 0 IF no EWG connector is installed.
T3: Fixed possible bug with "shadow code" delete not working properly.
T4: Fixed possible bug with JB4 changing to map4 on absolute maps when oil temps are < 160F.
T6: Fixed potential bug with map6. Additive map on map6 only active if RPM1500 set to 6psi or less.

N55_FSERIES_OBDII_EWG_14:
*** Be sure to set DutyBias to all 50 if set to 0, or you will under boost on absolute target maps ***

1) Added back trans temp logging parameter
2) Adjusted startup sweep timing
3) WMI algorithm adjustments

N55_FSERIES_OBDII_EWG_13_T11:

1) Revised mapping when FutureUseD bit6 is on for BEF use.
2) Added FutureUseD Bit5 for duty bias learning by RPM. Turn on to enable.
3) Reset duty bias all to 50 when flashing if you run absolute target maps to speed up adaption.
4) T14 Fixed possible bug with fault code reading

N55_FSERIES_OBDII_EWG_13_T3:

1) Fixed possible bug causing X5s to set the alarm off when doors are locked if JB4 is left enabled.
2) Added a startup sweep, enabled when map > 0, if wheel controls are enabled.
3) Added FUD Bit6 option for back end flash map designation and related logic.

N55_FSERIES_OBDII_EWG_13:

1) Improved CANbus engine to allow high speed logging of all parameters including timing cyl 1-6, load, and calculated torque, full time. Normal speed for CANbus channels is now 10hz. Cars with older BCM/gateway firmware that previously required "slow speed" CANbus can still use the FUD.7 setting for slow speed, dropping sampling rate to 6hz.

N55_FSERIES_OBDII_EWG_12:

1) Adjustment for those running high boost back end flash maps.

N55_FSERIES_OBDII_EWG_11:

1) Revised FUD settings to bit logic allowing multiple selections. Settings are as above. Note revised FUD bit options are for v11 and higher firmware ONLY.
2) Changes to partial throttle mapping to improve smoothness.
3) By default cyl1 and cyl5 only are logged to speed up sample rate. Other cylinders are loggable via a FUD bit 6.
4) Various other minor changes.
5) Various changes to PI mapping and other test features under development.

N55_FSERIES_OBDII_PWG_11:

1) Minor changes to bring PWG firmware up to current EWG firmware specifications.

EWG Control

For those with 2014+ models with the new electronic wastegate this thread has addl information on optional EWG control for higher boost maps.

OBDII Firmware Wheel Controls and Map Switching In Dash:

Terry, the Stage 1 is working out great. Lots of power. Thanks!

A couple of questions;
1. If I just got my harness 2/2, would I have the latest fw? What would be the difference in fw?
2. Am I supposed to disconnect the battery when installing or removing the harness?
3. Will the stage 2 offer any power advantages over stage 1 with a stock engine and no **? Or will the stage 2 just offer the functionality of the CAN interface?
4. Is there only 1 catalytic converter on the 335? I thought most cars had 2 these days.

Thanks!

1) I don't know. Maybe. Check the firmware date and email it in and we can check.
2) Yes, per the install guide.
3) More power, less lag, better features.
4) Yes. One big one.

Does Map0 on the Stage 2 represent having the tune completely off, or is it like a mini Stage 1 tune which is actually available as Map0 on the Stage 2? either way, thanks for getting the ball rolling on this! Definitely looking fwd to the added power come spring time

I am guessing Stage 2 will have CAN code delete built in and Meth Support will come later?

BTW. You are the F30 Hero!

The only upgrades I allow on my car has to come directly from Burger Motorsports. I haven't even put aftermarket wheels on. I want them to ask what's underneath that stock F30. I'll tell them BMS. It was like that on my E92 and it'll be like that in the F30.

the car will hit 480 rwtq and smash the tranny

Holy Torque Batman! I don't like the scaling differences on your Y axis, it kinda hides the massive torque increase you got, but anyway that thing looks ready to roast some tires on map 2! Nice to see the platform moving along.

Wow, that is a lot of torque. What's the explanation for that? It beats the E9x n54 and n55 in torque when going mod for mod.

The peak torque numbers are a bit of a spike at the start of the run. It's on par with any other N55 in terms of torque production per mod.
