Just installed the JB4. Took about 90 minutes to complete the basic install. Had to add another 30 minutes to run the USB to the glovebox (a physical labor) and another 30 for diagnostics to figure out that the power lead was not secured well (engine cranked, but did not turn over). So all tolled, 2.5 hours. Dashboard is working well... so cool!!

Now waiting for Hurricane Irene to settle down outside. It isn't too bad here around Raleigh, just some rain and gusty wind, thank God. Pray for the coast!

NOW I'VE GOT A TICKET TO RIDE!!!

Jim

Lovin' my JB4!! Already got yelled at for driving too fast!!

Two questions:
Does Map 5 remember after you go to another Map and then return, or does it have to relearn?
Is it possible that the JB4 introduces some turbo lag? Or does it just feel that way because the boost is so much more noticable when it kicks in?

Thanks!

Map 5 relearns if you use another map. Just turing off the car will not cause Map 5 to re-learn.

I just keep mine on map 5. Autotuning FTW.

No problem. For me, about half the time, map 5 makes a little more boost than map 1. I always run 93 octane though. Your mileage may vary.

Just seems to be getting stronger and stronger every time I drive it!!

BTW, the video was a lifesaver for doing the install. Excellent! I just walked through it step by step. The visuals were great.

Yeah, the gauge sweep is very cool!!

A higher boost level will take more time to achieve. Remember you have to accelerate the turbine and compressor wheels with exhaust gas, and obviously the higher the target turbo RPM is, the longer it will take to get there.

Also the extra torque does make the off-on boost transition more noticable, to me in an enjoyable way.

Terry, What are the next firmware features on the horizon? Is there a place to find out what is coming next?

I read something about impacting traction control on the thread, but don't see any features in the list in the first post.

Just read through all 3142 posts on this thread. WHEW!!! Lots of good stuff. Just uploaded the latest firmware... piece of cake. I also now understand that Map 5 needs 4600rpms in 3rd and 4th gear to tune. (Might be a good update for page 1 of the thread).

Running Map 5. Was traveling home at about 50 mph in 3rd gear and punched it (to get up to 4600rpms). The tires chirped!!

Also just changed the global boost for 1st and 2nd. Also just learned that holding the DTC button down will turn off the traction control.

Just keeps getting better... yeah, like a drug. Thinking about the DCI now after my wife recovers from the JB4.

Get the DCI. I LOVE it. Turbo spool noise and you can hear the diverter valves more.

Hey Terry,

When I am in M2, I have a problem with auto downshift to M1 when I punch the throttle. Any way to overcome or manage this? I'd like to accel out of sharp turns in 2nd when I race, but don't want a downshift to spin me out.

Thanks again, Dave.

Teach your foot to avoid pressing past the pedal 'kick down' point. You'll become a better driver as you smoothly press the pedal down. You're still getting full throttle at the kick down point.

Cheers!
