Default 335i first car question. - 07-01-2016, 07:36 PM

So I recently turned 16 and got my first car which is a 2007 335i e92. I've installed a jb4 tune, cold air intake, vrsf inter cooler and charge pipe. HKS bov and vrsf **'s ready to be put it. I was driving normally doing 30mph and gave it some gas, not much and the tires kept slipping being stopped by traction control. How often does this happen? I'm kinda scared to drive it now haha. Any info would be great, thanks!

My advice would be to stop trying to make the car faster when you have 0 idea how to control the car. Respect your limits before you crash your car, kill yourself and hurt others.

press the dtc button and hold for a few seconds until a circle icon with a triangle inside of it appears on your screen. then you can floor it all you want without traction control kicking in.

Make sure you got damn good insurance.

Make sure mom and pop have excellent insurance on you. I have a feeling both will be well used.

Should we start a pool to see how long before he totals his ride?

No matter how fast I go there's always someone slower in front of me.

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him Jet Ski.

Will probably sell the car once he realizes the maintenance involved.

Why would I sell the car? It's amazing! The smile I get when I floor it and it becomes all squirrelly. I can't wait to drive it without dtc or dsc. I didn't know you could turn them both off! Thank you

Either this is a clever troll job or we have an impending dead kid on our hands. No matter how good you think you can drive, you are not a good driver. It will take years upon years upon years of practice. Be very slow and cautious and ease your way into things. Sell those mods before you put them in and invest in a quality driving school at a track so you can learn how to drive. You are underequipped skill wise to handle this car (hence the comments about your impending death). If you have money after you take a course, spend it on suspension, brakes, and a charge pipe. Maybe keep the JB4 but run the stock map until you've spent some time on a closed course and can learn the limits of the car. Good luck.

I can see where your coming from and this isn't a troll. I wish they had those tracks and performance driving schools around me but they don't. They only have boring drivers Ed classes which I took. I'm in upstate NY. As for the parts, I already installed them. I do take my road test soon to get my license and that's when I really have to be very slow, boring and cautious. After that it's all fun. I'm thinking about doing methanol injection, any thoughts?

Real talk, drive your car on map 4 and learn the car. These cars stock are plenty fast, especially for a beginner like you. After a few months and 5-10k miles behind the wheel, then start on map 1 and get use to an additional 70whp. Do not get methanol injection, maybe once you're out of high school. Be smart and learn your limits because you have no idea right now.

I agree. Long hold of DTC around corners is bad news. One click is enough. Long hold and you might just roll the ******. :P

Looks like the closest one after a quick search is in Conneticut: http://skipbarber.com/track/lime-rock-race-track/

Is your dad in to cars at all? Maybe suggest this to him and make it a weekend trip or let him know you're interested in learning to drive better.

I remember what I was like at a little older than you except I was running around on a crotch rocket. I have done some ridiculously stupid things on the road and have been fortunate enough to not have gotten seriously hurt or killed. So I'm definitely not trying to sound like some condescending jerk here (may have a bit in my last post). But please be responsible and when you do open it up (and we all know you well despite how many times you're told not to) be careful and keep it as far away from traffic, people, and property as you can.

Before I do anything crazy is there any methods, devices or tricks to avoid the police? I absolutely hate the cops in NY, they write you up for everything for no reason. Luckily I have a family trooper card which gets you out of some stuff. I want to stay as far away as possible. Anytime I see one I imedietly take the closest turn to avoid them no matter where it leads me. I know there are radar/ laser detectors which I plan on getting along with laser jammers. Is there any other things that would help me avoid the cops? Thanks!

You can avoid the cops by driving with everything legal and the speed limit. I wish you good luck but some things are best learned the hard way.
