Default AFR Targets w/ E85 - 07-17-2016, 06:30 PM

I'm running E55/93 oct right now, FBO JB4 + MHD E85 BEF

My previous MHD custom tune (flash only) was targeting about 12.5 mid range and 11.9 - 12.0 top of RPM range. I noticed JB4 + E85 BEF is targetting about 12.8 near the top end. I'm hitting 12.8-13.0 top end. I feel this is a bit lean.

Educate me. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure that's what it spose to be these are direct injection. That's what my buddy's car runs afr wise with e85 bef anyways

Follow the actual load and rpm to see where you are in the table.

Those maps target leaner AFR's for a couple reasons.

If you are running a stock turbo flash, you usually aren't running fueling upgrades beyond an LPFP upgrade, so getting to 450whp on heavy E85 mixes will take leaner AFRs or you will run out of fuel.

If you look at hybrid or ST flashes, you'll see those target approx. 12:1 up top. However those guys are also running Stage 2 or Stage 3 pumps and port injection so they aren't confined to the limitations of the stock HPFP.

Shoot for 12.7-8 with E50ish if fuel upgrades can handle it

Has anybody tried a back to back comparison of running richer with the extra timing that it allows vs leaner with more limited timing? I run E21 (25% E85) and I still target 12.3:1 in the midrange and 12.1:1 up top with aggressive timing to make the power/torque back that was lost from running richer. The advantage of this is that EGTs and in-cylinder temps should be much cooler from the combo of richer afr and more advanced timing.

That's about how we set up our e25 map.
