Default N63 Rough Idle - 10-01-2021, 09:38 AM

I've noticed an irregular idle with my '11 550i over the last 3 weeks or so. After the engine warms up and is resting at idle ~700rpm or so, there is a noticeable change in the idle. The RPM gauge will move slightly and I can feel the engine shimmy complimented by a slightly shake through the body. It doesn't last very long, maybe 1.5s or so.

I took it to the dealer to be looked at yesterday and they kept it overnight. Service guy called back stating that they didn't find any fault codes and the engine is operating properly. I told him that it didn't have this issue when I bought it and that they should take another look. He agreed to take another look, so I figured that I would check with R/BMW for info/feedback.

I wouldn't expect an engine with 40K miles to exhibit this type of idle. Maybe I'm being to hypersensitive about this? I bought car as CPO 5 months ago and expect it to run like new.

Does any have experience with the N63 engine? Any comments/suggestions would be appreciated.https://19216811.cam/ https://1921681001.id/

I had a 2011 550i for about 4 years before trading it in on my Audi S7. I had the same problem that you described and it was at least one bad fuel injector. You might want to check wide band oxygen sensors also, the ones under the engine cover in the top part of the down *****. Hope this helps!

The biggest problem is that you expect it to run like new. Its 10 years old. Its not gonna do anything perfectly. Add in the fact that its an N63, an engine thats known to have lots of problems, and I'd say just a slightly rough idle is pretty good and certainly tolerable. Hell, my 2021 with 5k has a noticeable idle. It is what it is.
