Cool JB4 worked for months now loses power then my engine light goes on? - 04-03-2021, 10:34 AM

My JB4 has worked flawlessly on my 2014 BMW 750i, recently though it seems to disconnect from car which shows when my engine light goes on because of the sensors disconnected. When working the engine light is always off.

When this random problem starts I cannot connect to JB4....it seems to lose a connection or something?

Does this problem come up if OBDII cable is left disconnected?

Not sure, what exactly does the OBDII cable due?

Where does the JB4 get it's power source?

My engine is the N63TU so my MAF sensors are disconnected. When the JB4 is not working is when the engine light comes on....

The OBD cable is a data source. If its unplugged the JB4 defaults to Map 1.

It gets its power from the TMAP sensor.

He's asking you to disconnect the OBD cable from under the dash and see if it still throws the CEL.

Let me explain what is happening...yesterday I started the car and all was fine, no CEL, drove from CT to RI ran beautiful opened app everything was working.

Parked car for 1 hour in RI (not running)....started car to come home and the CEL was on at the start, tried to open app would not connect. Drove car home with CEL (definitely felt weird).

This morning started car the CEL was off and app worked fine. This has been doing this for weeks now......the times I start the car and CEL is off it stays off and does not come on unless I shut car off and let sit.

Sometimes I can shut car off and turn on many times in one day and all works fine no CEL and app works.

It's kinda like the JB4 does not turn on once in awhile and I know when this happens because when the JB4 is not working the CEL light comes on.

Best thing to do is pull up the codes to see what the CEL is for. You might want to check your board, make sure there is no moisture and also reseat your connections.

I know what the CEL is for....when I installed the JB4 is had me unplug the MAF sensors. So, when the JB4 is not working the CEL pops on.

If need be, a replacement board can be purchased individually as well.

Maybe try some silicone around the perimeter of the case and around the harness entry points? Doesn't look like the O-ring is sealing.
