Default JB4 Map 3 Log for 2019 G20 330i - 09-18-2020, 05:44 PM

Hi,

Can anyone help me read these data logs and tell if theres anything out of the ordinary? Trying to see if my new JB4 likes the MST Performance intake I just installed. Logs seem decent to me for the quality of pulls I was able to do.

0-60 was pretty slow (best was 6.06s) but that was without launch control and I may not have turned off traction control (thought I did). Running 93 from the pump so I tried out Map3.

Will need to get better logs in the future as I tested on a pretty short strip of road.

Really unsafe

Your getting timing retarded to 0 degrees...

Do you have a back end flash installed? The Ecu is commanding 20psi stock, I thought 30i engines only command like 16psi.

You can see your throttle is never open because the engine is sending something destructive happening and trying to limit the boost your cylinders actually "see" (boost 2 is the manifold pressure) vs what the turbo is producing (boost 1 is the pressure measured between turbo outlet and throttle in the charge pipe)

Whatever you're doing something screwed up is happening, try out of map 3,go to map 0 and do another pull, from 2nd gear rolling start at 2500rpm and do a wide open throttle pull to the top of 3rd gear and a shift into 4th, log out and come back.

Thanks for your input.

Its a Used Car so no telling what the previous owner did, but I hope BMW didn't let it being previously flashed slide being that was CPO and "still under warranty" when I got it.

I'll try out Map0 and see where it stands. Should I be expecting boost and boost2 to be equal? Boost goes all the way up to 30psi at one point but boost2 always stays under 22psi which is +6psi over the stock 16psi you mention (Map3 is +6psi over stock). Could the cuts in throttle be traction control interferring? After looking into it more it was definitely still enabled.

What do you see exacxtly that shows "throttle never open?" I'm guessing I want 100 throttle when WOT so when Pedal = 100 Throttle should equal 100? I included the part where I let off the throttle as well, sorry if that confused things but I do see it rarely goes to 100 if ever.

It likely has a custom tune on it then

I don't think I've ever seen a 30i command 20 psi

In regular cases boost and boost 2 should be very similar, take a look at the other logs posted on the log review section of the forum

The reason you have a big difference is the engine is detecting knock events or knock precursor events (bad things) and it's forcefully closing the throttle to prevent damage.

The 16+6=22 thing is just a coincidence

Ecupsi is the boost the engine's computer is "seeing"

Dmebt is the ecu's boost target

Pedal is your command

Throttle is the actual throttle opening

When pedal is 100 throttle should (mostly) be 100 as well

I am not an expert but I would say the throttle closure almost certainly is safety related and not traction control related

You can see in your first pull the throttle closure occurs exactly when your timing is pulled. Again I'm not an expert but it seems to me that this is more indicative of a safety reaction than a traction control reaction

Its definitley hgelpful, I appreciate the direction. I'm about to look at some new logs I took of Map0 through Map3, I'll post tonight or tomorrow in case you're still curious.

They felt much smoother when manually shifting so fingers crossed.

Yea I'll be interested in taking a look

Maybe some other members would be able to give you advice to see if you can check if your ecu has been flashed already. Just because it is CPO doesn't mean very much. It's super dependent on the dealership and they can be all over the place.

Doesn't look great I think.

Any idea how to check the ECU software version vs the factory version. I thought I could pull it up in Read Codes but I get a "OBD sensor missing" error.

EDIT: Just noticed you said hopefully others know. Sorry! Wonder if I ask the dealer to check they'll try saying I flashed it and void my warranty...

I think just uninstall the jb4
Take it back to the dealer and say your friend mentioned your *** is not very smooth and to get it checked out

You can always claim you didn't do any ecu flash (because you didn't) and I would assume there would be a record of when the ecu was modified(if it was)

The other route is to take it to a tuning shop and just getting it checked out there... But you will lose your warranty with a modified ecu...

On your next log try starting from 3rd

I went back and looked at other logs and see there’s a lot of throttle action for those doing pulls starting in 1st and 2nd

Interesting point. I'll try pulls from 3 and pulls from 4 @2500RPM to redline sometime today, I see thats common practice elsewhere.

I'm only semi hoping the ECU is flashed and the dealer has my back so I can trade into an F30 and throw all the mods at it I wish I could find an G20 M340i.

If the ecu is flashed they should have told you I guess

But there is no date info so they may try to weasel out of it

It will only have a "modified # times" counter I think

Hey @KnifeEdge87.

It looks like you're very knowledgeable when it comes to reading logs. My on the other hand. It's all Greek and Latin to me. I have a G20 330i with JB4. Can I send some logs for you to look over? I'd love to hear your input.

To the OP @Antimosity. Do you mind me posting my logs here? Or i can start a new thread if you would prefer to keep this thread just for your car. Asking because I don't want to create too many threads on this forum is all. And we have the same cars. No hard feelings if you don't want me to post here and you'd rather I make my own thread. I totally understand.

@KnifeEdge

I haven't taken it in yet cuz my upcoming service appointment should be coming in the near future so I'll bring up the ECU at that time.

I returned to the stock air box and under normal driving conditions and small pulls it's much more stable. I have not data logged a WOT pull with the stock air box but have been watching gauges.
