Default New to B48... what can be expected from JB4 only? - 09-28-2020, 04:16 PM

Hi guys,
I am an N54 guy, but my wife just bought a 2018 X28I (X2) SAV.

So if I put a JB4 on that motor with no other mods, what (if anything worthwhile) can be expected?
Iím just looking to get a little more ďassĒ out of that motor ó without hurting reliability, etc. etc.

Thanks, as always!

The B series block is closed deck

It's got a longer stroke and higher compression than the N series engine but honestly I think the concerns around this is overblown especially if you have access to good gas.

Given its a SAV type probably not looking to drive it like it was an s2000 so the lower performance ceiling at the top end likely doesn't concern you. This motor will never be a screaming redline chasing monster, it won't ever reward you for bouncing off the limiter but that's fine.

With good gas and, if you are up for it a hiflow or *****ted ********, you can reliably push 20psi in the midrange.

B46 and B48 are structurally identical

You won't make as much gains bone stock but if you do a ******** mod and participate filter delete youre looking at very similar levels of gains to someone with a B48.

If you're already out of warranty a flash tune is a better option than jb4 especially if you're not going to go mod any further than this.

Interesting.
D Ý w n p I p e? Is that the **********?

I have a MHD and cable that I used on my 535i, hopefully those can be reused (with a new flash purchase, of course)

Iíll have to look up ďparticipate filterĒ delete. Not familiar with these Motors yet. Always been a straight-6 guy from way, way back.
Is there a good site to educate myself?

Thanks!

Particulate filter

Downp1pe is where the catalytic converter is, getting a high flow c4t (which necessitates a new downp1pe) makes the most difference of the standard bolt on mods
