Default Evolution Racewerks F30 TIC on an E92 - 05-14-2016, 04:45 PM

Hi guys,

I got the F30 Turbo to intercooler piping installed on my E92 last night. The purpose is to remove some 2” outlet restriction on the turbo, and eliminate the last piece of pressurized plastic in the system. Backstory is here:
http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39117

Parts required:
1. Aftermarket FMIC with a bead-rolled end for a clamp connection. I have the ETS 5". I reused the long straight coupler from ETS to help clean up the alignment to the TIC pipe.
$600 used.

2. F30 TIC factory gasket, or as BMW calls it the PERFORMED SEAL. P/N: 11618506782 (remove the space by com, typical for posted links).
$8.50
http://www.realoem. com/bmw/enUS/partxref?id=3A93-USA-06-2012-F30-BMW-335i&diagId=13_1500&q=11618506782

You can get this at a dealer or any parts site like Turner/ECS. All (3) dealers in the Houston area had to order it.

3. 45 degree 2.5” silicone coupler with about 1.5” on each side of the bend, minimum. I ordered one from amazon rated at 100PSI burst, 75PSI operating pressure and 4 layers of silicone.
$17 from Amazon.

4. 3” 2.5” bead-rolled pipe piece to clean up the angle to the 45 degree coupler without a compression.
$20 from Amazon.

5. (4) t-bolt clamps.
$11 from Amazon.

6. F30 Upper TIC (turbo to intercooler) charge pipe. Only purchase the upper, the lower will not fit. The upper is required due to the trick machining needed to make the gasket seal socket, and slots to reinstall the factory clip.
$165 from Evolution Racewerks.

The pipe I installed is from here:
http://evolutionracewerks. com/node/278

Total cost not including intercooler: $221.50

NOTES: I have the Pure Turbos turbo inlet pipe which is much larger than the stock plastic pipe making the t-bolt clamp at the TIC upper pipe a pain in the ass. Try to do this off the car. Also, you cannot pull the inlet without pulling the outlet first after the install.

Disclaimer: Follow this at your own risk, be safe, no warranty implied etc.

Install steps (Estimated time 2 hrs.):

1. Pull the car up on ramps, or lift onto jack stands. Chock the wheels etc.

2. Unscrew the 20+ 8mm under-tray bolts.

3. Pull the plastic engine cover, and OCC hoses if you have one. Maybe empty your OCC while you are there, mine was half full of condensation probably from the E85.

4. Pull the factory intake downtube. Plug your turbo inlet so you don’t drop a screw down there.

5. Take a small screw driver and pop the turbo inlet piping clip out.

6. Go underneath the car and pull off the FMIC inlet coupler and t-bolt clamps.

7. Install the gasket in the TIC. The “V” of the gasket should face the FMIC, not the turbo.

8. Attach the 45 degree silicone coupler to the TIC pipe and fish the discharge side down towards the FMIC.

9. Reinstall the retaining clip on the new TIC. The “U” in the TIC pipe is 180 degrees off from the tab in the clip.

10. Go under the car and install the 3” pipe into the end of the 45 degree coupler. Connect a t-bolt clamp and lightly tighten.

11. Connect the ETS long coupler to the 3” pipe with a t-bolt clamp and lightly tighten. I dropped the FMIC from the car, leaving the outlet connected for ease of movement.

12. Slide the FMIC inlet into the long coupler and install a t-bolt clamp.

13. Tighten all the t-bolt clamps, bolt back the FMIC.

14. I recommend leaving off the undertray, completing the topside re-install and making some runs to test the connections, and then reinstall the tray to save some effort should a clamp come loose.

15. Put everything back together. Remove the turbo inlet plug.
Pics below.

Feel free to use this and make it more efficient/use different parts.

I hit 19 to 20 psi all the time. No leaks.

Yes, thank you for the write up! Im holding 24psi to redline now thanks to this fix! I had to order a 60 degree elbow instead of 45 though.

I would hit 22 psi and it would fade to 18psi when I was targeting 22. I had issues with stock Turbo plastic pipe being out of round. Sealant would not even help. This pipe along with a 60 elbow and great write up helped me trouble shoot my weak spot. It has virtually eliminated my misfires since getting Pure Stg 2 turbo also.
