Default RB oem billet turbos?? - 03-27-2017, 05:17 PM

Another n54 owner needing turbos (wategate rattle and now leaking oil). Called bmw today and they want around 1800 for both. I was looking at vargas turbos with the billet upgrade but a lot of people have bad experiences dealing with them. Im wondering if anyone has any experience with these RB oem turbo's with the billet upgrade or any advice on what route to go. Also RB lists a option for a billet high heat anti-wear match wastegate. is this worth the extra $250. I currently have vrsf *********, gutted mids, vrsf chargepipe with tial bov, and jb4. I don't plan on getting much more serious maybe inlets, inline low pressure pump and maybe meth in the future.

all I see for MMP is their stage 3 and pure turbo's show their stage 2 or the OE genuine turbo's without the option for the billet wheel. I am trying to keep price down right now im trying to buy a house soon haha

Not sure what you have heard about VTT but I have had nothing but good to say about them. They were a great price and mine did have an issue but are getting replaced quickly and with great customer service. You should check them out for sure.

VTT GC lites
Pure DD
new OEM Stock replacement

would recommend in that order.

If cost is highest priority, and a stage 2+ upgrade is out of reach, just do the new stock replacements - they are the most reliable option anyway, more so than any aftermarket turbo, and I don't think the Stage 1 type turbos offer enough HP bump to offset the decrease in reliability.

OP,

RB OEM Billets are basically on par with the RB OEM's. The only difference between these two is the OEM Billets have a 10T Billet Compressor Wheel instead of a 10T Cast Compressor Wheel of the RB OEM's.

So the only difference is the positive attributes of the billet wheel vs. the cast wheel which are as follows:
1) lighter wheel
2) stronger wheel
3) extended tip technology for more airflow
4) smaller hub for better aero and more airflow
5) bullet nut for better aero

It is worth noting a smaller wheel (especially one as small as the 10T) will not see MUCH benefit from the billet offering- but we are also talking about a tiny bit of surcharge here ($150 extra) as well. This all said for the lowly $150 surcharge it could be worth it to some, but most looking into this product have simply opted to save the $150 and get the cast wheel instead as any additional amounts just hurt their budget.

Ultimately if you are really looking for a cost effective upgrade that will provide a noticeable power improvement you would want to look into the RB Ones (at minimum) along with Inlets.

One more thing: All of our offerings have much improved internals over the OEM units (ie. RB OEM's are greater than BMW OEM's), but that will not make you more power and only provide more robust internals.

Thanks,
Rob

Sounds impossible to push that kind of power on stage ones. The closest your coming to in power, is just under 500 wheel. They will tap out at 525-550 if really pushing, with port injection. There is a thread around from Steve Nelson who was one of the first to run a stage one .

Not that we aren't backlogged on turbos, we totally are, Covid has everyone upgrading turbos at once it seems. But based on the N55 in the sig this guy pretty sure is someone who actually ordered only a tiny oil adapter, shipping to Singapore via USPS Priority Mail International, to hopefully work with a competitive turbo kit that didn't work out for him as it was delivered, and now the tiny RB adapter has been held up in customs for a week or two. Nothing we can do about this one: blame Covid, blame USPS, blame customs, hell blame Trump, but nothing we can do about it.

Rob

You are correct, the RB OEM Billets would be very hard pressed to surpass 475whp, and that would be beating that absolute snot out of them with an all out setup in kill mode (they are recommended for up to 425whp). We've seen the RB Ones however make up to 528whp, although also being pushed quite a bit, they are recommended for the 425-475whp range.

Until now, i still not recieved your RB item. I have already purchased from vargas and their item reached me over the weekend less than 3 days. For my payment to you, since i did not recieve anything, i hope you can donate my payment to charity to those poor and needy. If you do not, it is also fine with me.*

Have zero idea why you are updating a Turbo thread, when you ordered a trinket oil feed adapter? Also why you are doing so, having already emailed too? At any rate, here is the email response...
__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ __
"Glad to hear Vargas is flying their shipments personally to Singapore now, that is some tremendous effort and cost for a small business turbo shop out of California to do, that is to charter their own plane to deliver items to customers. Now if only they had a turbo setup that fit you’d never had to even order this small trinket part from us to to begin with.

At any rate we on the other hand are smaller than that and have to rely on actual world couriers (as selected by the customer) for our deliveries, and due to Coronavirus the USPS courier seems to be doing very poorly for some International packages as of late, specifically those that route through the Chicago International Distribution Center.

The good news is that it seems this package finally just started moving again on 9/15 (about 2 weeks after being handed off in Chicago), so it should be there soon, likely any day now.

In the future just know, that the USPS and the worldwide postal services can be very hit or miss on International shipping services, but they are even worse at the current state of the world right now. For the most reliable services use FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc.; or take chances with the post office."
