Default 335i N54 ticking noise on cold engine - 06-03-2019, 03:16 AM

Hi guys!

I have started to have this strange metallic ticking noise at idle on cold engine(when oil temps are under 47 degrees celsius). When I raise the rpm's over 2000rpm or when the oil gets over ~47 degrees celcius the sound disappears completely.

The noise is driving me nuts!

What could be the cause of the noise? Injectors are new and the sound is not coming from them. The car is working flawlessly otherwise.

Here is the noise:

Here is engine sound when the engine is warm:

There are so many damn things that could be making that sound on N54...

I always thought it could be the wastegates getting hit by the bigger cold-start exhaust pulses, like those little flappers on diesel tractor exhaust stack.

Sounds about like any n54 I’ve ever heard...

Injector tick maybe?
