Default Horrible luck... - 04-08-2015, 01:54 PM

So, I just ordered a ******** and JB4 w/ flex fuel wires... went in today for my free maintenance. Found out that my fuel pump is going bad...BAH! 2011 bmw 335i w/ over 62k miles, so of course it's out of warranty. Should I call BMW NA?! I was quoted $800 for them to replace the hpfp, or just attempt to do the install myself?

Ask your SA for DSA (dealer self authorization.) Dealership has the option to cover 85% of the repair under warranty without asking their rep.

If it's a 2011, it has the same HPFP as the earlier models. Why is this not under the extended warranty?

You should have up to 100k miles on the powertrain. I know this because I bought the 6yr/100k bumper to bumper warranty upgrade. It's all the electronic knic-knacks that aren't covered under the standard warranty, GPS, seats, electronics, but the power train comes standard with 6yr/100k mile warranty. BTW, Take the JB4 off before bringing it in.

Those HPFP's are under a separate warranty due to the recall. I believe it is 120K miles but verify that.

Pretty sure the recall only applies to N54s in spite of the HPFP being the same.

So I spoke to BMW NA rep Margaret, she seemed pretty helpful but told me they can't really see what they can do for me at this time because it would be considered a preemptive repair and the hpfp hasn't went bad yet. Which I find pretty ridiculous, the SA at Taylor BMW in Augusta clearly told me I had signs that the fuel pump is failing and it could happen at any time, e.i. driving on the highway etc. The rep also mentioned there are no recalls at the time, which i'm well aware of. However they had a massive recall for the 2007-2010 years that use the same HPFP! I don't know if I should try calling back and reaching another representative or just wait until it fails and pray it doesn't happen when I'm on the highway, etc.
