Default Alpina b3 flash queston - 08-11-2014, 06:33 AM

After this flash, when in DS mode, does the transmission automatically upshift to 6th gear or does it stop at 5th like it does now stock? I've read and I'm still unclear on that for some reason?

I like the fact it stays in 5th normally!

(when stock at least) much easier for picking up speed on motorway.

6th should be for cruising only which you wont be doing in "sports"

75-80mph it will shift into 6th. If you've leveled out on the highway & in cruise control, just flip it back into D & it'll jump to 6th. At least that's what I do, if I see I'm steady state and tachin' up & want to shift. If I need a little extra power, I can manual downshift & it will return to automatic mode from D, or slap it back over to DS.

It will never shift into 6th in DS mode under 74 mph under any conditions. It will hold 5th under moderate throttle over 74 but quickly shift into 6th when letting off the gas. Downshifts back into 5th under 74 always. Or at least that is my experience so far.

I've read mostly good about this, some bad. I love sport mode, is the flash much better?

I put by Alpina flash in nearly the first thing & have been driving it like that for 6 months+. I just got the JB4 & am still mostly stock running E85 mix. DS it the BEAST now! I think the Alpina B3 stock is around 400bhp. I think as you approach that with mods, you're getting what the program was designed for. It feels really aggressive now, almost too much for city driving, I've been bringing it back to D lately, and with the added HP, D doesn't feel as mushy.
