Default Its not always a boost leak - 08-31-2014, 05:46 AM

I went a couple of months with a slow spool to 15 psi and a struggle to pull from 5k-7k rpm. Long story short I replaced all vacuum lines, boost solenoids, and removed the FMIC and charge pipes and reattached to ensure no leaks.

Problem remained poor slow boost only able to hit 13-15 psi, where before I could target 20 at 4500 rpm.

Next I started looking at turbos they also appeared fine we decided to just leave ********* DP's unattached to the remaining muffler, my buddy said it could be that the secondary cats were clogged. We took it for a test drive, wala instant boost car back to beast mode louder than **** but problem found. Secondary cats were clogged to hell, so I bought a Cobb exhaust that removes secondary cats car is back to running like a champ. A weight savings of easily 40-50lbs and way less restrictions.

Latest logs with a VD of the pictured pulls and how she is running with the new exhaust.

I'm having similar issues and know I don't have a boost leak. I need to do the samething as you.

I guess the main keys here were that I never got codes for a boost leak and it would slow spool to 13-15 psi. The main thing is at 5k to 7k it pulled very slowly just a long struggle to get there.

If you want to test just undo the *** from the exhaust. It will be loud as he'll but all restrictions gone if you hit boost secondary cats are clogged.

Clogged cats can be a hard to diagnose and incredibly annoying problem. I had a daily years ago and could not for the life of me understand why it was such a dog under load. Pulled the exhaust one day after I exhausted (LOL) all other options and it was hilarious, the car was an animal. A trip around the block and I thought it was a Porsche.

I ended up breaking out the cats and all was well, it was Indiana so as long as it had a vin, or something like a vin, you could drive it.

I think the primary reason for clogged cats is either burning oil (from worn rings/valve seals/etc) - or running too rich, which will clog the *** elements too.

So YMMV depending on the vehicle, condition, mods, etc.

Good stuff! Glad you were able to get your car sorted out OP and I'm sure this info will help others. Probably the most valid reason to upgrade to an aftermarket exhaust that I've ever seen.

This is promising. My spool had been as slow as a turtle and i have been getting *** codes off and on. Will do the test by removing the exhaust. Will update. Thanks.

Plugged cats are an extremely common problem when people run aggressive tuning, fueling through cats. We just had a Stage 2+ customer stuck at 550WHP, not matter what he did, finally pulled cats, problem fixed. Glad you found your problem!
