I have a 2010 335i that needs a motor. The previous owner hurt it somehow, I bought it with a hurt rod bearing. My 2010 apparently has an 8 bolt crankshaft, can I use an earlier 6 bolt crank motor or is that more trouble than it's worth? The reason I ask is because I am having a harder time finding an 8 bolt crank motor. The earlier N54's seem to be much more prevalent. Thanks guys!
I have not had time to pull the motor out yet because of other car projects I've had going on so I me have the 8 bolt and 6 bolt thing backwards. It is not easy to find information like this online unfortunately.

Hi AndyG, Did you go ahead with this. Any issues? what exactly did you swap. Doing same myself.
Flywheel or flexplate is the only thing that will need to be swapped.

Correct you will only need to swap flywheel, it only gets complicated when you have a twin disc clutch. Also you have the 6 bolt vs 8 backwards, early motors are 8 bolt, later are 6 bolt. Your car should have a 6 bolt.
