Default F10 N55 mods - 08-23-2013, 12:45 AM

2011 535xi, RSI ******* DP, meisterschaft gts exhaust, bmw sci, jb4 stage 2. I can't get the boost I'd like to see from the stock turbo, not much past 16 psi. I'm considering meth but I'm being good it may not do much more than the cam2 100 octane. I'd also like to find an fmic but haven't been able to find one that will fit yet.

Update on the FMIC. Tuning Technology Motorsports is currently in the process of installing the COBB FMIC for the 335, custom fitted to my 535. I do intend to Dyno the car after the install so Ill have much better idea of exactly what I'm generating.

Ok so here it is. The IC install was completed successfully. Because the stock fan would not fit with the IC installed it had to be removed. In its place are 3 12" low profile 1200 CFM fans, dual fans on the back of the IC pulling and a single in front pushing. They are controlled by temperature sensitive probes placed in the fins of the condensers and work very well, better in fact than the stock fan. If need be I could actually put s larger fan in the front but it was not necessary. They are wired into the battery and the controllers, into the start/stop fuse, and the setup works GREAT. The stock fan motor is mounted out of the way, still connected so the ecu senses it and avoids error codes, I am going to see if there's a way to remove it completely at BMW, but if not its really not a concern.

IAT's are fantastic compared to prior to the IC, at the end of a pull IAT was exceeding 160° with approx 70° ambient, now I'm seeing 90° with approximately the same ambient.... AWESOME! Also my engine oil temp is a good 20° less than prior to the custom fan setup. It was not an inexpensive modification, and I dont know that I would have done it prior to doing met if I knew the cost prior to beginning the install, but it was successful nonetheless and now the COBB N55 IC is installed and functioning very well. Short shifting combined with the lower IAT during pulls has significantly improved performance, especially top end.

Next up BMS meth kit.

Now that ive done fbo with the installation of the IC, tomorrow the next modifications will be done. The BMS 2.3 meth kit and the active autowerkes N55 charge pipe are being installed beginning tomorrow. Once again part of this installation will be custom, the CP is for the 135/335 not the 535 so, my installer (camber toe, lynbrook, ny) will have to make a custom modification to the cp. Not sure if anyone is interested but i will post an update when finished. Since the title of this forum is fastest 535, I think its appropriate to mention that with the p3 indicator i recently had installed, I ran a 4.31 0-60 the other day on run flats and on a slight upgrade, so I think without the mods being done now I could get into the 4.2s and hopefully 3s with the meth and better rubber.

Meth kit and CP installed by CAMBER TOE , 659 Merrick Rd, Lynbrook, ny. They did an outstanding job for a more than reasonable rate. They were professional, thorough, creative and highly skilled. I cannot say enough about how well they performed. The meth kit has made a significant improvement with IAT's, psi and performance, as gauged by my butt dyno. Actual dyno jet #s will follow. Also the custom modification to the charge pipe is a work of art in my opinion.

Default 2011 F10 N55 AWD MSport FBO+METH(boost juice) - 09-29-2013, 03:02 AM

For those who expressed an interest in seeing some logs for the f10 N55 running meth, here you go. Ambient was between 53 and 58, Im running cam2 100 octane with 1 oz per gallon of Klotz octane boost, which claims to raise each gallon by 2.5 full octane numbers per oz added(I have not verified this however, I am just going by advertised gains, but the speed shops I have found it in claim it is accurate and, nonetheless I have not tested it myself), PID Gain raised to 14 and default wastegate set to 100, running a JB4 stage 2, map7, Meth additive 75 and scaling 60.

I would like to add that BMS had to send me specific firmware to run map7 with the meth and I WOULD NOT run meth in map 7 without acquiring the firmware from BMS first. If you install Meth run in map3 as per BMS instructions, unless told to do otherwise by BMS themselves.

I intend to Dyno the car later in the week, and what I can tell you now is that while I do not see an extremely large gain in peak boost (there was a gain of 2-3 psi), the most noticable improvement is the sustained boost/power throught the higher range of the power band in each gear. Where previously I would get a substantial drop in psi as the rpms reached the 5K range, now the boost curve stays relatively flat and there is no drop off in pull felt from my butt dyno as ther was before. I had pulled a 0-60 in 4.3 before meth, I think I'm in the high 3's now. Im just specuating because I havent been able to get to track yet. Thats also coming within the next 7-10 days.

I saw your car at Camber Toe and actually looked at tank placement and some install issues with them. Didn't see the finished job but sounds like it worked out well.

I'm having an issue with when I attempt to do a 3rd gear log and WOT at low rpm in 3rd gear that I want to resolve before hitting the track and/or dyno. Hopefully will be resolved early next week. Regardless of whether I figure the problem out or not I will be hitting the track within the next two weeks. Will keep you informed.

I'd be very pleased with those numbers mid 12's would be awesome but to be conservative I think high 12's are more likely, but you never know.

Something to add about Tuning Technolgy in Long Island. I would not recomend them, based upon several reasons. they did the work reasonably well, although they had myu car for a full two weeks for a IC install. The custom fan setup is what took the most time, and I certainly wouldnt call them resonably priced. Most recently, I had taken my car to Camber Toe for CP, Meth kit etc. and was having some issues with the fan setup that Tuning Technology installled and when asking for some wiring information, didnt receive it, and when I asked them to try to resolve the fan issue, I received no response. So to be fair, they did get the custom IC to function, but in my opinion didnt follow through with issues down the line and refused to assist in the troubleshooting by responding that your current installer will just have to trace the wires. I was not pleased.

Camber Toe on the other hand, has been thourough, accepted responsibility for any issues related to their work, and have been resonable with all billing.

Dyno update, I finally have found an AWD dyno in my area(I believe) and should have some dyno numbers next week.
