What do i do with the JB4?

Leave it on my selected map and autoclear on?
Leave autoclear on and put it on Map0?
Shut autoclear off and map0?

You aren't going to pass unless you have a O2 ***. The JB4 clears the O2 code often which does not allow the O2 monitors to read "ready" so you will fail. Get the ******** fix circuit to fix it.

It's gotten pretty cold where I live and I notice the bottom end torque I had in the fall is gone. My car ran wonderfully at 55 degrees, but now that we are constantly in the 30's and even some 20's, it's doggy from idle to about 2500 rpm.

I've had better luck with map 1 than map 5. I only have access to 93 octane, with no other mods. It's a 535i if that helps.

Should I try map 5 with some WOT runs to get it to learn the IAT?

No harm in trying now that we know how Map 5 learns.

For what it is worth I am also 93 octane, sometimes higher when I mix in a 5 gallon drum of race gas. Also have DCI. I stick to Map 2 which adds a bit more boost than Map 1.
Map 5 seemed indecisive to me at times. Especially at lower rpms. Just didn't have bite.

One of these days I will run the tank low and get some Shell 115 octane, then try Map 7. I love how easy it is to change maps on the fly.
Just had a code cleared associated with an audio upgrade. I had to turn JB4 off in order for the scanning tool to work, it blocks it otherwise. The guy was amazed at how easy it was for me to turn it on and off.

On a different topic a strange thing happened yesterday. I was playing with a 135i on the interstate, did a few pulls on him. Don't think he was modded as he couldn't keep up at all. Then during hard acceleration I got a warning re low engine oil and I could swear the JB4 dialed down. It was engaged because the hijacked fuel gauge was showing boost pressure, but it seemed to max out around 7psi or so. Later after I added a quart and the warning msg cleared the boost was back on. I think I forgot to set the auto clear option in the JB4 menu and wonder if Terry rigged the program to drop boost when warning codes appear. Strange stuff. Maybe I imagined this, but it sure felt like boost dropped off. No limp mode or anything like that.

^ lol u run map 2 with just dci also huh.
Do fill ups with 102 and run map 7 often but stick to
Map 2 with 93-94 octane.

The oil light might just have appeared from the hard acceleration and stop
You should always let the car recalibrate itself.
Stupid digital dipstick.

I've have had low oil light and no reduction in boost.
Might have been something else. Check the codes.

If the DME asks for a lowered boost due to some fault the JB4 will always obey as a safety measure.

On a side note regarding 535 owners...i believe there is hidden functions in the stalk that will display digital oil temp. Anyway to have the JB enable the digital read out without using the stak each time they start the car.

Hey Cynical

I hadn't heard of that. Is there a special sequence you enter or something to trigger it manually? I'd love to see the digital oil temp shown.

Cool stuff no longer installed.

I forget what it is. It's thru the stalk or the dash/idrive hidden menus.
It's like using the Bmw performance wheel. It just shows what the dme is reading. Gotta be somewhere on e90/60 post

Gold medal to whomever can point us in the right direction for obtaining oil temp info in the 5 series.
I will never understand why BMW decided to ditch it and insert a MPG needle gauge instead. Does anyone ever look at that gauge. Ever? You already have the average MPG in the cluster and on the side info panel. Bone heads.

Terry, could you post up the excel spreadsheet with the JB4 wheel controls? I could add the new features and also some of my own notes. I always keep this in my glove box and would be cool if I could just update it myself.

There is some info scattered around. Generally useful for those using particularly bad 91 octane and lower grade fuel, and those running large turbos and/or nitrous. Little benefit to anyone on 93 unless you go full bolt ons, then we have a special map we're testing now that takes advantage of the CPS to allow more torque. And of course with meth the tuning disables it so no need if you plan for meth.

Yea saw a bit on boost but was more of mish mash of conflicting info that didnt lead me to believe it was worth it or not. My car is officially in winter mode now though. Stock exhaust winter rubber that I can spin in third gear even without meth. :-(

I just wanted to read up on it so I can I further understand what it does.

Any chance you'll make a map using the CPS module to increase timing when using meth? Maybe even autotune the CPS module to add timing past the oem curve until it senses knock?
