245/45/17 on BMW style 159

Guys, If i have done nonsense let me know.

Running 245 / 45 /17 NT01's on the stock BMW 17 x 8" 159 rim. The tires are running 25psi cold.

The problem is that I don't have traction just for a light feathering.

Is is that I have an incorrect setup running the 245/45 on 8" s. Also the tires are not spanking brand new.

245 is probably a little tight on a 8.5" width, but doable. Might result in uneven center/outer tread wear though.

25 psi sounds low ...
if they are old they may provide less traction.

245 is the correct size for that wheel, its a 8" inch wheel not a 8 1/2. Just because you put a nitto on doesnt mean they will hook, do you have a lsd? where are you trying to get traction? there are lots of variables. tire pressure depends where you are at, 25psi is probably perfect for the drag strip, but like I said it depends on track conditions.

Oops, you're right I mistyped. However 245 is a little wide for an 8" wheel, but doable.

Thanks for the responses.

Honestly I expected to put them on and have traction at all times. After all the car is just FBO so nothing crazy. I am also trying a diff lock down and it has helped things a bit. Seems I also need to review my camber settings.

Maybe the r888 would be a bit better ? If I recall they are a replacement for the rA1 which was 40 ya vs the Nitto that is 100.

Hey Guys, continuing on this quest for traction I have decided to go with new tires all round. I don't care about the longevity of the summer wheels and would prefer a square setup with lots of traction and some drive ability in rain or standing puddles.

Question - would 255 be to wide for the 8" rim and should I stay with 245 / 40 ? Also will what I decide for the rear fit the front ? So would 245/40 or 255/40 fit the front ?

2007 - e90.

255's are too wide for a 8" wheel. Had 245's on my old Talon on Evo 9 wheels and in my opinion nice and meaty looking.

Yes seems so I will go going 245/40 square on the 159's. Now to pick a good tire :).

Any recommendations ? Just looking for something that is very very sticky but moderate in rain and puddles at normal speeds.

Bridgestone Potenza RE-71's are the hot autocross tire around here.
