So the genius Mazda dealer filled our new car with 87 octane (lol), figured we'd do a few dragy runs to help burn the tank off. Best of which is attached. Apparently they rate the engine for 225hp on 87 octane, 250hp on 91+ octane, so we'll dragy 91 octane next before we install the JB4 prototype.

91 octane baseline runs, not bad! About as fast as a tuned Honda Civic 1.5T.

Subscribing to this thread.

I have a 2018 Mazda 6 with the 2.5t and am excited to see development on this engine.

It looks like the Mazda6 and earlier models use an air/air intercooler, while the new Mazda3 uses an air/water intercooler. There is another minor difference with the TMAP pressure sensor. But basic tuning should be the same!

Whew, at first, I thought you were going to say the 6 wouldn’t be applicable due to the minor differences. Glad to hear that tuning will be the same!

Making some decent progress here. Was able to add knock and learned knock factor to the logging channels. Making good progress on fuel control also. Once the logging is buttened up I'll start posting up some logs.

Issue cropped up with an o2 sensor so testing is on hold a few days as I wait for a new factory o2 sensor to show up. :lol

Crap turns out its on world wide backorder, need to wait 3+ weeks now. :(

LOL, glad you're having fun!

I have a 2019 Mazda 6 with the turbo. I’m VERY excited about seeing this develop! The stock tune absolutely falls on its face above 4500rpm.

Terry @ BMS 12-24-2020 10:41 PM

Yes the top end what I'm hoping to improve once we finally get fuel control sorted out. The car runs 10:1 from the factory for most of the power band!

BMS has a new AWD dynojet scheduled to be installed early Feb so we'll have to wait until then for factory and tuned dyno numbers.

RayRah000 01-12-2021 10:23 AM

Any updates Terry??

Terry @ BMS 01-13-2021 08:45 PM

Our car has been parked the last 3 weeks waiting for an o2 sensor to show up from Japan. Such is life during COVID. =/

RayRah000 01-14-2021 03:24 AM

3+ weeks to get an O2 sensor...that’s not good...to think the dealer would have them in stock

Terry @ BMS 01-15-2021 02:08 PM

Yep pretty lame. But what can you do. They are not available anywhere in the USA right now.

tegxsi 01-15-2021 03:47 PM

The 2.5T has been around since 2016.
So the o2 sensor used in the CX9, CX5 or 6 2.5T won't work?

Is the part#?
NTK 27069 {#PY8V188G1}

Terry @ BMS 01-15-2021 03:55 PM

Tried it, doesn't work.

ecoil 01-17-2021 01:06 PM

Just registered to show my support - very much looking forward to an option for the 2.5T!

Terry @ BMS 01-18-2021 11:01 AM

Now they are telling me early to mid Feb. What a total waste of time lol.

Jaydawson46 01-18-2021 11:56 AM

Think it's most Japanese parts.... waiting on seat for my Yamaha Mt07 from UK as it's not sold in US. Just called em directly this morning to follow up and they said Yamaha told them they are over month behind. We will have to learn to be patient during this covid crap. Oh, and I'm following as well...can't wait to see the results... gonna purchase asap for our Mazda 6 2.5T!!

Terry @ BMS 01-18-2021 03:21 PM

On the plus side I got the connectors I've been waiting for to do the direct boost solenoid control, so can't wait to dig in to that. It's the last major piece other than oxygen sensor control we need to maximize power with the JB4.

Our new AWD dynojet should show up sometime next month too.
