Hey guys,

We set a new N63 power record today with a 2011 550i. Power curve looks great, and power level is impressive for 91 oct + meth.
It may even get close to 700whp with race gas next time around! Overall very impressive considering these V8 twin turbo cars
can be bought for less than $25k! That's a lot of car for the money.

Mods:
-N63 PURE Stg1 Turbo Upgrade
-BMS JB4 w/ BCM
-3.5bar tmap sensors
-Meth kit
-Intake + Exhaust
-Heavy 21" wheels

A few questions.
1. What MAF housings and intakes are those?
2. Is that car AWD? That would make it more special.
3. 6 speed or 8 speed?

One more.
4. Is this even possible with a TU until Terry makes a JB4 for it? I can't imagine owning another BMW out of warranty after what the last one cost me, and all the F10 LCIs that are covered have the N63N.

FrostyDC4 11-20-2016 03:25 AM

Impressive

What are the inherent limitations/problems with the N63 powertrain?

Payam @ BMS 11-20-2016 06:31 AM

Very impressive for 91 and meth.

Newguy123 11-20-2016 09:36 AM

Friggen beast!

Peter @ Pure 11-20-2016 09:57 AM

great result!

jandraos 11-20-2016 11:15 PM

which gear was this Dyno conducted?

Pure Turbos 11-21-2016 09:11 AM

This customer's car is an 8spd auto. Dyno pulls done in 4th and 5th.

Vorsprung_CJB 11-21-2016 09:32 AM

This would be crazy with xdrive. Wonder if it could hold up to this power level. I imagine the power is hard to put down with a non-M 5er.

The new 3.5bar support for the N63 is working nicely for these. :)

Steve @ BMS/Fuel-It! 11-21-2016 10:31 AM

Terry and Steve, l am getting jealous here, I cant wait to make it home for 3.5 BAR firmware flash with big Alpinas and match some big numbers.
Thanks again for writing the code. you guys are awesome

pricojorge 11-21-2016 01:53 PM

Damn, imagine with 93 octane and a small mix of e85

dt20011 11-21-2016 03:07 PM

Sweet, I'd love to do this to a 5er wagon.

Quicktime 11-22-2016 07:46 AM

What kind of power can the 550's 8 speed trans handle before it starts to become a issue?

Well hopefully it's a ZF 8HP70...
http://www.autoblog.com/2010/09/24/2.../#slide-273077

Wikipedia says 700NM or 516ftlbs
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZF_8HP_transmission

I'm sure an additional transmission cooler would help bump that up a little...but if I was going to go record hunting I would get something like this.....

The Southern Hotrod War Viking Transmission (1000hp)
http://www.southernhotrod.com/product-p/shr-21040.htm

Fortunately the 8hp70 is used readily by other manufacturers and tuners have already started modifying them for big power. SHR is just one of a few different transmission builders.

According to the ETK its an 8HP70Z.

BMRDude 11-23-2016 09:03 PM

The Getrag DCT in the M5 is rated at 750nM or 550 ft lbs but it seems that each trans is modified for each specific application so maybe they are beefed up somewhat. Certainly the DCT doesn't like boost over 22 so is clearly over its design limits at that point.

Presumably similar thinking would apply to the zf 8 speed but who knows.

How much boost is the Pure 550 pushing for these dyno numbers?

Mike_L 11-23-2016 10:51 PM

The 8HP70 can only take so much. The 8HP90 is the big dog for the Hellcats and Bentleys with massive torque.

BMRDude 11-24-2016 08:10 AM

Hellcat dyno shows 579 lb ft at 4200 rpm wtq on dynojet done by kennebell.
So...we are 100 over that! Yikes!

@PureTurbos

Can you please tell us the differences between the data above in the original post versus this build....

V8TT + PURE = WIN 760whp & 816ft/lbs
https://www.instagram.com/p/7_rh5WSLY2/

The difference is more than can be explained with different dynos or different conditions...120whp difference? Was the 760whp run using race gas and meth? Was it using stage 2 turbos?

BMRDude 12-14-2016 12:52 PM

Where did the charge pipe meth inlet ring come from? or was this a custom one off part?
