str8shot E85 bluetooth analyzer details and updates

I figured I should probably start my own thread.

Made some code changes, and subsequently have the analyzer running with JB4 displaying E content and logging, in addition to the Bluetooth output:

This should also allow you to display ethanol content on a P3 gauge using one of their open inputs.

Trying to come up with more ideas before any of these ship out. Anyone else have any feature suggestions or requests?

Great work. I will definitely will be picking one of these up!

Can we get more technical info in this thread vs. in the FS thread?

Sure, what kind of technical info were you looking for? The ECA components themselves?

I'm using an Amtel ATmega328 processor, along with a CSR bluetooth radio. The bluetooth radio has a working range of about 30 feet, but that's slightly reduced since it's under the hood. I'm converting one of the 328's PWM outputs with a lowpass filter to a true 0-5v analog signal.

0-5v analog out ensures backwards and forwards compatibility with just about every flavor DME/piggyback/gauge there is.

The harness I made is from 18 awg premium Granger interlink wire, premium .125 loom, and premium adhesive lined heat shrink bullet connectors. The loom is heat wrapped shut about every 2 feet (vs using zip ties) for a OEM like finish.

The next batch I'll be switching to 22 awg wire, as the 18 awg is just a little too big and tends to pop out of the looming. Both work perfectly, though.

The connectors are OEM GT150 style, and I solder the pins (vs just crimping) for a fail proof design. I'm also using delphi weather seals on the pins so they're weather proof.

edit - free blueterm text readout has been replaced with my own dedicated app.

Got the E90 on the lift last night. I've decided to take a different approach to the fuel lines.

Rather then sell new pieces using the dorman nylon fuel lines, I'll instead be using modified OEM fuel lines. This will maintain the form of the line around the gas tank and undercarriage, and should maintain 100% reliability and safety.

Unfortunately, it will raise cost just slightly.

Here's some pics of the new OEM modified line:

Quick connect fittings added for the flex fuel sensor:

Modified line installed in the car:

The e82 kit will also use modified factory lines. I have both e82 and e90 line kits, ethanol analyzers, and wiring harnesses ready to go!

See my for sale thread in the classifieds.

What's the cost going to be with the oem line?

Spxxx 07-30-2015 08:05 AM

What's the process of getting this integrated with the jb4? I imagine you're splicing into the jb4 harness for the input? Can we still hijack the meth gauge on the jb4 mobile app if were running meth + your kit?

I'm running the 0-5v ECA output to pin 15 in the JB4 harness, so if this spot is already occupied by a meth input, it wouldn't work. You would still get the E% and fuel temp via bluetooth, though.

Another option would be to install a toggle switch to flip pin 15 between the two. Only one would display at a time, and this is assuming your meth scaling is at 100% so you wouldn't need to change your user settings.

I'm not sure how JB4 will be incorporating ethanol content when they release they're new firmware. I'm pretty sure they have a few open inputs, so it'll probably be 0-5v on a different pin.

Measure your ethanol content today! My harness and analyzer is 100% compatible with JB4 and the new Fuel-It fuel line packages!

str8shot 08-17-2015 10:36 AM

I've added a few new options to my ECA solution. I'm now focusing on the ECA itself, and will leaving fueling to the Fuel-It guys. My harness and ECA solution is 100% compatible with the Fuel-It installation kits.

I've added new options including an ECA for use with just JB4 (or any other 0-5 volt input type display, gauge or PCM), and I'm now offering a stand alone LED display / gauge for those without JB4, or who are currently using JB4 pin 15 for meth.

The Android Bluetooth option is still available, and my own flavor dedicated app should be ready soon. I've got some great ideas for the app I'm working on ironing out.

I've also added two additional leads for future expansion, which can be activated via the fully USB upgradeable firmware.

Check out my market place thread for more info and updated pricing...

Here's a screen shot of JB4 mobile displaying ethanol content (ethanol integration box checked in settings):

Here's a picture of JB4 mobile next to ethanol over the fuel gauge:

Things are looking good for reading your e85 / ethanol content!

My Note 4 just happens to fit perfectly between the dash and the ash tray...

str8shot 08-28-2015 07:35 AM

Added two additional outputs for future use for a total of four.

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/b...psx3lurzet.jpg

I'm thinking of using two to allow switching between E-content and Meth input.

One for a 0-5v Meth input, and one with a push button switch to flip between 0-5v Meth output or 0-5v E-content output on the same JB4 pin.

Need a tester if anyone is interested.

I now have a dedicated app written for Android.

Currently, it will read out your Ethanol content and fuel temperature.

I should have a blend calculator added to it in the next few days, but the core functionality is there and working.

Sold a kit with the digital meter.

Came out nicely and will look good in the glove box.

I like this a lot. How much for a kit like this? Also, what does the analyzer output? 0-5V?

For the basic ECA, harness and gauge, it's $50.95 shipped.

If you're using the gauge, the output is 0-1 volt.

If you're using it with JB4, the output is 0-5 volts.

You could change between the two at anytime by switching firmware (updated via USB).

The only difference on the ECA between the JB4 and gauge version is the output lead. The non-gauge version has a d-sub pin to install in the JB4 DB25 connector.

The gauge version has a weather proof bullet to connect to the gauge harness.

Shipped a couple more kits in all flavors (bluetooth, JB4 only, and with the gauge).

Tried out the red gauge - it looks pretty sharp. It's going to look pretty rad behind the buyers vent:

Loggable. excellent.

i run meth with E85(a E55 Mix).how can i incorporate the both.Example I would like to either read ethanol content on fuel gauge or just use a digital gauge.Would like to know what kit is needed to do both. Not interested in bluetooth thanks.

If you're running meth, you're only option is bluetooth or the digital gauge. Unfortunately, it's a limitation of JB4. At present, it only accepts one input, meth or ethanol - they share the same input pin.

If you want to do the digital gauge, that would work since it's not connected to JB4 in any way; it would be totally standalone.

str8shot 10-08-2015 03:48 PM

Two more kits shipped out!

ECA with gauge, and an ECA for use with the P3 vent gauge.

Red looks sharp. Way better than blue IMO.

Have a new display I'm trying out. This will work in conjunction with JB4 and or bluetooth (the previous display used the same voltage output as JB4).

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/b...pspa9kjfrq.jpg

The previous display read analog voltage in .01 increments for each percent of ethanol. For example - 1 percent ethanol would read as .01 on the display, 50% ethanol would read .50, etc.

This particular display uses a digital input, to display an exact reading from the sensor. Because of this, it doesn't suffer from any inaccuracies due to voltage fluctuation.

It's a little bit larger, and a few dollars more, but should provide for much more reliable readings.

This is compatible with any of the ECA's I've sold using three of the four twisted pair wires I had added that were reserved for future use, along with a new firmware that can be loaded via USB.
