Building a big turbo N55 with 70K km, internals rebuild needed?

Hi Guys

I am building my M235i with 70000 km on the engine, looking to put Pure S2 turbo (or something bigger) on it, do I need rebuild the internals to be realiable? I am really wondering the life/reliable of this old engine.

Flash tune will be based on ECUTek, JB4 will be used for meth/Pi control.

I have everything ready, just wondering the internals, b/c I didn't see too much N55 rebuild kit available like old school jdm engine. (No bolt, head, only find Piston and rods).

Also, any good reference on rebuilding a reliable N55? We are looking to push it over 600 maybe.

I don't think you need anything if you are only pushing around 600hp.

I'm going stage 3 Speedtech to 600hp, not changing any internals. I'm at 86,000 miles.

Dont you think 8374 is too big for 600 crank hp ?

I'm going to tune to 600hp initially and if I see no issues I'll tune to 650hp. I know me and I'll want more lol so I wanted a path forward.

Seems a perfect plan. There is no end .

Still do consider 7670 again for 650hp. 8374 would be laggy i guess.
Just compare both again and shoot for what you like.

yeah for sure! I talked to a guy who installed a BW 7670 and he was wishing he went with the BW 8374 so I figured he was right!

Out of curiosity, what was his reasoning?

zole2112 05-02-2019 06:12 AM

The need for more power, once he was running at 600hp it wasn't long before he was itching for more. I didn't want to be running at the max output of the 7670 so for me it made sense to go bigger since it fits my car fine. And I have a path forward of I did want to upgrade my drive train in the future.

Gotcha. I don't need that much power and the 8374 doesn't fit mine anyways but I was wondering if he was having problems with it. Sounds like it was fine just not enough for what he wanted. Thanks

Exactly right, it performed great for him but he maxed it out and then regretted not going stage 3.
