Hey guys,

The MINI B38/B48 JB4 is a new CANbus enabled tuning system offering a lot more features & function than our previous Stage1 system. The CANbus data allows us to provide more comprehensive and dynamic tuning, advanced features like code read/delete, in dash map switching, boost targets by gear to improve traction, an in dash boost gauge, and much more.

JB4 Interface: Latest Interface Download. When updating your interface you may need to first go to "add remove programs" and "remove" your previous JB4 interface.

If you need directions on how to connect a laptop to your JB4 to update firmware or how to datalog Click here.

MINI JB4 B38/B48 Map Guide:

Map0: Disable JB4 all together
Map1: 4psi peak over stock
Map2: 6psi peak over stock
Map3: Progressive WMI map (under development)
Map4: Stock tuning with JB4 active for logging and in dash gauges
All other maps: Not defined, do not use

Exhaust Valve Mode:

Toggle between flap open, flap closed, and OEM operation, by pressing the button for 2 seconds and letting go. The left blinker will flash for valve open, right blinker for valve closed, and both blinkers for OEM operation. The valve setting is persistent and will remain in effect until you change it. If you hold the button too long you'll jump in to the in dash menu system below.

Dash mode: By pressing and holding the BC button you'll enter dash mode. The left blinker will turn on and the tach/speedo will drop to zero. To toggle through menu systems press and release the BC button. Note as the speedo modes with each BC press it will not necessarily align with speedometer needle position. The speed = 0 starting menu is for maps with the current map being shown by the tach needle. To change a setting when on the menu you want to change press and hold the BC button. The right arrow will light up and now pressing the BC button will move the tach needle to let you change settings. When the needle is aligned with the intended setting, for example to change to map2 then speedo=0, tach=2000rpm, you'd press and hold the BC button. The blinkers will flash twice and the in dash menu system will close. When you go back in to the menu system you'll note the map has been updated.

'0 map menu, map shown on tach (tach shows Map)
'1 Active Sound MUTE. (OFF tach = 0, ON tach = 1000)
'2 Boost gauge on fuel, scaling in dash is 0 to boost safety setting, turns on when gas pedal is pressed 50% or more and turns itself off when you resume low throttle use. (OFF tach = 0, ON tach = 1000)
'3 LED MAX brightness mode. For those with factory LED headlights this option brightens HALO during nighttime operation. (OFF tach = 0, ON tach = 1000)
'4 Delete fault codes
'5 1st gear boost limiter. (Tach = boost cap / 3)
'6 2nd gear boost limiter. (Tach = boost cap / 3)

Directions for those upgrading from a Stage1 system to a JB4 system using the upgrade kit:

1) Disconnect the negative battery terminal in the trunk.
2) We're going to remove the back shell from the Stage1 AMP connector and insert two more wires in to the Stage1 harness. For those who currently have a methanol kit installed the wiring will also need to be relocated. The tricky part is that the wires can not be removed without a special DSUB removal tool so it's best to cut and splice them as needed. Reinstall the shell when complete.

JB4 wiring:

Green CAN wire goes in to pin 2
Brown CAN wire goes in to pin 15

If also using methanol:

FSB orange wire goes in to pin 3
FSB blue wire goes in to pin 16

Also note the add on flex fuel wiring positions are per the N55 guide. The male flex fuel pin goes to spot #21 on the DB25 while the female (sensor side) wire plugs in to spot #4 if empty or if not is spliced in to the green wires going to spots 4&17. Review the N55 flex fuel install guide for additional information.

3) Using a screwdriver push in the rubber cap towards the passenger compartment. This is where the OBDII cable will be routed.

http://www.n54tech.com/forums/attach...1&d=1433020451

4) Using a hanger or wire fish the OBDII cable from the interior cabin through the firewall. More photos needed for this step.

5) Using the included wire nuts connect the CANbus wires you've installed in to the DB25 connector to the OBDII cable wires.

6) Plug the OBDII connector in and route the wiring behind the panels.

7) Switch the JB4 circuit board for the previous Stage1 circuit board. They fit in the same enclosure. This might also be a good opportunity to upgrade to our latest billet all-weather enclosure: http://burgertuning.com/JB4_billet_a...enclosure.html

8) Reconnect the battery.

I am interested in helping and can send my stage one in for the needed upgrades :burnrubber::burnrubber:

pjsjr13 08-29-2015 03:24 PM

What's the ETA?

Ludrof11 08-29-2015 08:43 PM

I'd be willing to be a tester for the B46 motor!

hcorrea 09-04-2015 06:43 PM

I'm in .... send me drugs!

Dbartondpt 09-04-2015 07:09 PM

I'm in too!!! Just tell me what to do.

Terry @ BMS 09-21-2015 03:43 PM

Just as an updated we have a couple of the systems out and so far so good. But we need to expand testing. Could use one or two more B48 guys who currently have Stage1 and are fairly familiar with how to do logs, update firmware, etc.

Tobias1980 09-23-2015 09:41 AM

Fantastic news! Will JB4 be developed for B38 engines?

Terry @ BMS 09-23-2015 10:05 AM

Yes the same system will also work for the B38.

fean07 09-29-2015 09:28 AM

do you want to test with JCW also ? :)

Terry @ BMS 09-29-2015 09:59 AM

The JB4 is compatible with the JCW.

hcorrea 09-30-2015 04:17 PM

terry, I keep waiting for you!

Terry @ BMS 10-01-2015 08:42 AM

To order a BETA JB4 B48 upgrade kit? If you don't mind doing logs, updating firmware, etc, then I can get you in the testing group.

Jack_p92 10-01-2015 09:44 AM

Any idea how long untill this is avlable to order?

Looks like the obd port is in a different place on the LHD cars, as its on the drivers door sill in RHD cars.

Terry @ BMS 10-01-2015 09:57 AM

Yes for RHD that might be more of a headache. Worst case you'd need to use POSI-TAPs like this to connect.

Jack_p92 10-01-2015 10:12 AM

Thats fine with me, i can just do that.

If you want someone test test it out in the UK feel free to message me, happy to order one but i havnt used the software for logging/firmware updates before but it wouldnt be a problem for me to learn.

sonicsonic 10-23-2015 02:11 PM

Very nice that you started to work with b48 because piggy-back is the only way to tune that engine. B48 dme is not tuneable (new ecu is closed for tuning) but the engine is good. That new ecu can be tuned for some options when it is all-new: vmax & ***-off. After 10 working hours the ecu is closed for any changes and there is no any tool in the world to crack it:)

So we will wait for warm Spring weather and will buy one BMS piggy-back for our shop car;) Of course we made ***-off and increased vmax limiter while it was new.

Inside B48 ecu:

sonicsonic 10-23-2015 02:18 PM

Maybe we can take one jb4 for testing but we are in Russia. Making logs is not a problem. If don't need testers we will buy it for money but the March or April. In that months our dynojet will be installed so we'll see what gains are:)

Terry @ BMS 10-23-2015 02:39 PM

We plan to add the B48 JB4 upgrade kit to our website shortly. Stay tuned! :)

Jack_p92 10-26-2015 05:54 AM

Just to confirm what parts will i need to order for the full JB4 stage 2?
is the following correct?
BMS DATA cable - $ 35.00
B48 JB4 BETA Upgrade Kit - $ 250.00
MINI B46 / B48 (4 cylinder) Stage 1 BETA - $ 379.00

Will i need to order the OBD canbus interface cable to be able to switch maps with the steering wheel controls? even though my car is right hand drive and the obd port is on the door sill?
Also would you recooment a fuel flex connector for running 98 ron fuel in the UK?

Terry @ BMS 10-26-2015 08:46 AM

That's correct. We'll also add a full JB4 BETA order option to the site to simplify things.

OBDII is connected but you need the data cable. For RHD on the CANbus stuff you may need to extend the CANbus wires, use posi-taps as discussed, etc.

Jack_p92 10-26-2015 09:31 AM

perfect thanks, i will get it orderd as soon as im paid :)

would you reccomend the fuel flex connector for normal fuel?

Terry @ BMS 10-26-2015 11:12 AM

Should be OK without it on pump.
