I'd be keen :)

Will we be able to perform logs and save them via this interface ?

Yep. Right now I'm still in the very early stages, but I do have successful logging of the data from the JB4 to the mac app (should be fairly straightforward for the iPhone once I get my wireless adapters in).

I will be trying these $20 wireless adapters I found on eBay as well when they arrive in a week-ish. So maybe this would be a cost effective option.

1) Mac version of the JB4 software
2) Gauge display/logger for iPhone

Options for the serial iPhone connection: TTL iPhone cable or Wifi serial adapter

The wifi option would allow for the use of the charger so I'm leaning more towards that.

I have the serial communication all worked out now. (finally)

I figure for the iPhone interface 3 gauges would be about all you could fit on the screen and make it look nice.

Do you all have any interest in this?

I would, especially if one of the gauges can read our Oil Temps on our 5 series

Keep up the good work and keep us posted on your progress

nguyenvn 10-11-2013 06:34 PM

Keep up the great work Dmac! Let me know if you need a beta tester for the Mac app.

DV135i 10-11-2013 06:36 PM

Definitely interested in this!!!! I'm tired of VMware slowing down my macbook pro!!!!! ugh

I find that my windows jb4 VM runs nearly as fast as it would on bare metal. Are you running out of memory / swapping?

I have successful serial communication and parsing of the data. Right now I'm working on designing the interface.

Just an idea, but what about a BLE connection? Open Source on OS X?

Not going to give a definite ETA, but I will have some extra time this week to really get testing the OS X stuff. I'll try to post a short demo video of the OS X app interacting with the JB4 tomorrow.

As for the iOS app, I'm still waiting on my wireless chips to come in so I can't really start testing that yet.

I use bluetooth for my music and I don't want to sacrifice one for the other (I don't have the nice iPod connection setup). Not sure about making it open source, I might though.

alexim 10-14-2013 06:01 AM

I'm in!!

Grease Monkey 10-14-2013 07:47 AM

I have an older Powerbook that I would prefer to use for this rather than lugging my newer (I.E. more expensive) Macbook. Do you think this would be compatible with OS 10.5?

Peter @ Pure 10-14-2013 09:04 AM

In too :-) nice work!

Is there also a possibility to change jb4 maps through iphone app?

BrewRifle 10-14-2013 09:48 AM

Count me in!

Dmac @ BMS/DMD 10-14-2013 12:02 PM

Proof of Concept

Testing some of the serial communication stuff. Yes some fields, like Clock for example, are incorrect right now. Still working on making all the text the same format the Windows version uses.

Edit: You're probably going to want to watch this in 1080p in fullscreen since the recording got kinda blurry for some reason.

MasterWang 10-14-2013 12:13 PM

Cool!
Will it eventually graph the logs like the current windows version?

Yes. This is just for testing the serial communication.
