Meth injection dyno results -
05-22-2009, 01:06 PM
Decided to do a little dyno testing today. I had planned on doing 91 octane + alky testing, but wimped out at the last moment and added a couple gallons of 104. So closer to 94 octane + alky. Using a 75% mix of denatured alcohol from home depot and 25% water. Ran in to the usual problems at this power level. Spark blowing out, boost leaks from somewhere (wastegate opening?), etc. But all in all was happy with the results.
Boost around 18psi! Probably a few more HP in there with better nozzle placement, etc... Tuning continues...
Details on car:
2008 135i automatic non-sport
JB3 w/ custom board (12 ohm safety resistors)
Riss downpipes and catback
BMS dual cone intake
Code3 Intercooler
Coolingmist meth tank/pump/nozzle, BMS controller
Kosei K1s w/ drag radials

M5? That should put an M5 down easily. Terry is near 450 rwtq at 2700 rpm!

Looks good.
My next question would be; do you think a car with jb3, dci, and meth only can break 400rwhp?

Yep... The stock DP's and FMIC is going to be a limiting factor but if people are pushing 340whp on that combo i dont see why it would not be attainable with meth, it would be like running on 100oct straight...

HOLY ****BALLS!!!!!
I knew 50 HP was a peice of cake with this motor.
Looks like I know what my next mod will be.
Terry, was that using a regular map and the ecu adjusting to make more power or a meth specific map?

Alky injection / meth is basically just like race gas, only slightly better. So anything you can do on race gas you can do with meth. Without downpipes 400rw is a tall order, but possible.

I am not all to familiar with meth injecting, but are there any differences between using Denatured alc. and water as opposed to methanol and water?

There is a relationship between the alky/water ratio, and octane to cooling benefits. Same relationship exists with nozzle placement. But I'm still processing it all now as far as the N54 is concerned. Not sure on meth vs. denatured alcohol. Need to source some for testing.

Denatured alcohol is simply ethanol with some additives or dyed a certain color to indicate that it is undrinkable.

Want to try to put some Bacardi 151 in your little tank? 75.5% ethanol content! I'll source some.

Thank you for all the work you're putting forth to get us the best power out of our cars.
Will you be doing a straight 91oct + meth/alky dyno soon so people who only have 91 will be able to see what is realistic day to day? It doesn't have to be 18 psi per se, just want see the benefits of meth on say map7.
Thanks!
