Extend the Warranty??? But why not just recall it for a better pump? I guess they did the CBA (cost-benefit-analysis) and figured out it's cheaper to keep her than try to replace the amount of bad HPFPs that are out there.

Has anyone considered either of the following options:
1. Using the fuel pump on the new 4.4 liter twin turbo V-8
2. Using two BMW pumps inline
I am really curious though if we could retrofit a bracket to allow us to use the V-8 pump.

You don't want (nor can we) use the V8 pump. It's the old "hitachi" style piston pump while we have a diesel style rotary type setup. The kind that the V8 has usually limits the amount of torque you can produce due to the rpm of the pump (and the engine) down low. The VW 2.0T uses the same style, and it takes a $1k upgraded fuel pump to even make max torque on the stock turbo.

I'm guessing we should still 'detune' our cars before we take it in for the HPFP as they claimed?
Although I never do.......lol

Well according to my shop foreman, when they realize there was a HPFP issue, they marked all the good pumps with a "GREEN Paint marked". After a few months of marking all the good pumps and were able to distinguish between the two, some morron went and marked bad pumps with the green paint mark too, ACCIDENTALLY. So a few thousand bad pumps got marked as good pumps.
My 1er is an 09 and i already had to replace pump @ 2K miles because it pooped. My 08 335i was replaced as soon as i first heard about the problem, just cause...

30% isn't a 'small percentage'.
Someone did a survey on E90Post and it was 54 cars out of 180 or so.

Luckily a new HPFP is a $385 part at Tischer, and it looks like it will not be a difficult install. I'm hoping mine hangs in there until the Bentley manual comes out later this year.
Item Number MSRP Core Price Price
13517592881 $481.47 $0.00 $385.18
HIGH-PRESSURE PUMP
I'd rather DIY than demod a full bolt-on car, and let the dealer mess with the car.

It isn't too bad. BMW gets 8 hrs i think, maybe 6. Then again, they get 12 hrs for springs and struts (yea, wow). It takes you more time to get to it with removing every above/around it. I paid $301 for mine, couldn't do warranty cause my 1er was NO WHERE near my service department. I can just picture it.
ME: "Um hello, road side assistance? yea my car broke down while trying to tune my new piggyback computer."
Them: Oh sir, i'm sorry to hear that. Are you and your vehicle in a safe location?
Me: Yes ma'am, i'm at XYZ Performance and my car is still cooling on the dyno. BTW, before my pump went we made 405 RWH!!!
Them: Sir, i'm sorry i dont know what your talking about but we'll send a tow truck right away...
Me: OK thank you...

CP-E is actually in the process of developing a better HPFP. When the pump went in my 1er it was @ CP-E. They swapped it out for a new OEM Pump and i gave them the old pump for them to do testing and to see what can be done if anything.
I'll keep ya up to date as i hear stuff...
