Default Famoso 12/12/15 Results. - 12-12-2015, 08:55 PM

Hey guys,

Had a lot of fun at the track today. Per usual I'm exhausted so I'll keep it short and sweet.

1) To say the organization of this thing was poor is putting it lightly. I spent most of the day waiting in various lines. 30 min to get in to the track, 30 min to get a run card, waiting for tech, then an hour or two between each run. Combine that with 4hrs of driving to get there and back it was a long day to make 4 passes.

2) I raced our MOTIV 750 135i and it ran pretty great. Weather was awesome for a socal track, temps in the 50s, but track prep was just OK.

Mods: JB4, Port Injection, 100% E85, MOTIV 750 kit, 3.15 gears, lvl10 trans, BMS OCC, and lots of weight reduction and other minor modifications.

My first run launching in 2nd gear with a 17psi limit I had to abort as it got sideways around 50mph.

Second run it broke traction enough for me to have to get off the gas for a moment, but having waited 2 hrs for the run I decided to drive out of it, and managed a new N54 WR 140mph running only 28psi! Might even be a record for factory turbo BMWs? Not sure on that. But was very happy to finally break 140mph with the car.

Third run I decided to launch a bit harder and raised boost to 30psi. It left OK but misfired a bit before the cones, and the lvl10 trans started slipping on the 3->4, managed only 10.7@137. This might be a new N54 ET record. I'll have to check that.

My last run I cranked boost up to 32psi but trans slipped even worse, it misfired at the top of 4th again, and again ran only 137mph.

The slips and a couple logs below.

3) "allmotor_2000" killed it with a new F series platform record of 10.1@139 with his M5. Details on that here: http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35639

4) Ando@BMS managed a best of ~11.4@129 with our development M4. I think that's a trap speed record for OEM turbos and OEM ***. Might be an ET record too.

5) Jon@BMS was on stock tires with our development M5, spinning all over the place, but still managed to run a best of 133mph traps at 26psi. Another record for OEM turbos, OEM ***.

6) Jason@BMS was racing our 2011 135i N55, which has been running well for months, but today again decided it won't run over 20psi without misfiring. At 20psi it managed ~124mph traps which is respectable for the car. I don't think Jason was able to get a clean launch in though. 60' times in the 2.5 range. =/

7) Drew had some trans problems but ran around 135mph, Longboarder was TKOd by a trans issue on his first pass, and EricC63 managed a very nice ~10.6@139 with his SpecialtyZ tuned GTR. There was even a Warren (hotrod) sighting but he was just spectating today. We really need to get him back in to a turbo BMW.

Video of the 140mph pass:

Video of allmotor_2000 running 10.1@139 in his JB4 & PURE Turbo powered M5:

Pretty fun day at Famoso for me as I had the VIP pass and was able to do 10 passes

My best run of the day was 11.4 @128.5mph. Pretty happy with this result even though I was hopping for 11.2-11.3
It was super hard to launch this car. Major traction issues. My best was 2.04 and my worst was 2.3s 60 feet. I tried every possible setting. One thing I am very happy about is the trap speed. 128mph on all my runs !!!

BMS S55 prototype exhaust sounded great! I had a GOPRO video, but it got deleted accidentally

Very impressive numbers Terry! Nice work. That is some serious mph. For sure.
Looks like the BMS crew represented well today!

Thanks for sharing . Nice work on the 140 trap that's moovin! Any plans to work on the 135 misfires above 20psi? I'd imagine that car with 24-26psi would do close to 130 if it was sorted cough I'm sure there are others out there waiting for a breakthrough on them pesky misfire issues

Very nice to get even deeper in the 10's, a record breaking pass, with a very soft short time to boot! That car has so much more in it. I take its still in 4th through the trap with the 3.15s?

Congrats on the 10.7 Terry !!

It's too bad that the lvl10 trans slipped, we really need a solid 6AT solution.

Any idea why it misfires at the top of the gear? Mine does the same thing in top of 4th 62-300rpm. Throws a cylinder 6 misfire, but all ignition and fuel stuff is new ... Kinda stumped.

Here is lvl10 at 32psi, lol. When time permits I'll MT swap this car and just use it for roll racing.

This car has always misfired around 30-32psi. I'm not sure why. Running it leaner has historically helped. But I didn't get enough runs to lean it out enough at the track to get a clean run in at those boost levels. Not that it would have mattered with the trans slipping.

Curious about how anti-lag worked for you when launching yesterday. What launch technique did you use? Seems like those 60 foots are the biggest thing keeping you from low 10 second passes.

Did not bother with anti-lag launching or even 1st gear. Just brake boosting in 2nd gear caused traction issues. Track prep was not good but neither are the tires on the car. Was mainly going for traps anyway.

Amazing Stuff. Such a bummer the trans is the weak point here. It seems that car has quite a bit of potential if it weren't for the trans and traction issues.

But overall such a successful event for BMS. Met up in Sylmar with Drew in his M3, Adam in his Porsche, and drove up there with Eric in his E85 GTR. It was awesome to see Hellcats being punished left and right. (There were so many of them there) It was great seeing everyone there. Got to say hi to Jon, Ando, Vincent, etc. Thanks to Ram for providing the donuts too!

Here is a video of your 140.36 mph run

Also got another angle on Rams record run in the M5

Vincent told ended up running 133 mph in the Ferrari F1. Pretty amazing for a NA engine.

Eric ended up running a 10.64 @ 138.6 mph in the GTR. What is amazing is that even with AWD, he has a hard time getting below 1.8-1.9 sec 60' times. Which makes Ram's launches in the M5 truly amazing.
Pretty amazing how fast those GTRs are with stock turbos and minimal mods. Here is the time slip of his last run in the GTR

It is amazing how 130mph was a good benchmark to achieve, and now cars are shattering that threshold. It looks like 140mph is the new standard!
