So it seems like it's time for struts & springs. The passenger side sits about 3/4" low & my alignment guy suggests replacing it all. I'm scared of the coil over thing because I hate the bouncing / tough ride I have gotten from previous coilover kits.
He wants to do Monroe quick struts, he says they last & are "pretty nice". I'm thinking OEM but I would not mind being slightly lower than stock

What are you guys using on the e60 platform to maintain good ride quality without killing the wallet?

I have used Koni, didn't like them. I now have KW V3, very happy I am. I never recommend "cheap" suspension. It's too important, same as brakes.

I would have to go back stock. $3500 is way out of my league. I didn't pay a whole lot more for the car lol

Keep it stock then, if you cant afford parts that are aftermarket, then I would keep everything as stock as possible to minimize potential issues.

Well being able, & wanting to spend fall under 2 different categories. $3500 for suspension is out of what I care to spend on a car that I bought for not much more. I have other priorities & such. But, if there are "better" choices that are comparable to stock pricing, I'm all ears.

Alright. I'll take a swing on solo werks to be budget friendly & decent street performance as well as be able to lower it. They seem to have better reviews than Stagg socks / vogtland springs

Sorry, my experience is limited to what I mentioned above. Checkout e90 post, It should be swarming over there about suspension including stock replacement.

Thanks. The audi guys seem to be happy with them (unless they hot the track to road race). I'll check the e90 guys

Go with stock msport. ST coilovers if you are in a desert climate. Kw v1 if you live in a rainy snowy midwest climate. Ive had just about every setup and these are by the most comfortable.

I'm using the Koni FSD with stock Sport springs on my 535i Sport and happy with it - it's not too aggressive, stays level in turns but very compliant over bumps - read up on it - for a DD it's great. Set for all four corners was like $800-900.

I had same Koni FSDs with H&R sport springs. Cost me $700 and $250. Lowered the car 3/4" and rode nice and firm. It's a big step up from stock suspension, much more athletic feel. And it tracks nicely at higher speeds, no nose diving on sharp turns etc.
But with my other mods I wanted even more control and refinement, so bit the bullet and paid $1,800 for a set of KW V2s. Absolutely awesome, worth every penny.

I had a failed attempt with coil overs for wife's e61. Bought a $900 set that was supposedly custom designed for that model of car. It made the car stiff and bouncy, noisy too. Completely destroyed ride quality and I quickly pulled it off and sent it back. Then installed KW V3 and we are on cloud 9. BMW should build their cars with KWs.

All factory e60s ride lower on the passenger side about a half inch. It's to compensate for the drivers weight. When you do an alignment on these cars your supposed to put weight in the driver's seat and if I remember correctly the trunk.
