Default E82 Berk D,P Back Race Exhaust - Worth Buying? - 05-14-2018, 03:49 AM

Have the option to get the latest version of one of these, second hand for just under 400 (RRP new in the UK is a shade over 1000).

Current OEM exhaust, bar D,P has been on since new and, thanks to our weather, has some rust. At some point I'm therefore going to have to replace and was wondering about this option?

Haven't had the opportunity to see/hear on a car myself as it's already been removed and there's only so much you can get from vids etc.

What are people's thoughts?

I have the VRSF D.P, Berk exhaust and stock midpipes and it sounds pretty good. At startup and idle it is quiet enough that it doesn't piss off my neighbors, and it gets plenty loud at WOT. I will attempt to get some sound clips of it later this week.

What does the berk neck down to after the Y? If its like the stock or BMW PE Y, it is around 2.5", which is a bottle neck IMO. I kept the stock mids and replaced the y with one the necks down to 3.5" and used a 3.5" magnaflow muffler. It's probably not as pretty as an aftermarket exhaust, but it definitely breathes a lot better.

It's 2.5 dual into single 3 so maybe OK?

Thanks Foagy but I've seen a number of vids already so not sure I'll get anymore from another and/or sound clips. Your thoughts on build quality/fitment etc would however be very much appreciated

As the exhaust came on the car when I bought it, I cannot remark completely on what it looked like brand new or how it was to install. That being said, it seems to have held up very well, and the tips clean up pretty easily. I have had a dinan exhaust on my previous 135, and it was not as good build quality as the Berk was (although I think the dinan sounded a bit better). Hope this helps.

Thanks both.

Even though it's second hand it looks pretty much like new so definitely appears to hold up well.

At the price I'm being offered it at I'm not sure I can resist so hopefully the 3 inch will work out OK.

Berks was the best sounding exhaust I have heard for the 135i. I'm not sure if I heard it with the cats or not though.

Well, that probably seals it. I'm guessing it's going to be loud though as I'm c'less and all the Berk has is resonators in the mids.

It's a good job the closest neighbours have an Aston, Impreza and GTR!

From a sound perspective, the Aston is incredible so if the Berk is anything like that I'll be super happy.

Think I've decided to pull the trigger on this.

Only decision now is whether to trade in the OEM exhaust I'm taking off as it turns out the guy selling the Berk is returning the car to stock and would take mine - mids and rear.

Condition of mine isn't great so it's either 399 for the Berk and I keep mine or 100 plus mine?

Just need to find a similar deal for a M4 DCT flywheel!
