Default JB4/FFTEC N54 single turbo in the 5s 60-130! - 02-16-2014, 09:18 AM

Car details:

2008 BMW 135i automatic
Factory engine and transmission
BMS JB4 w/ single turbo firmware
FFTEC 5862 top mount turbo kit
BMS meth, OCC, and various other bolt on mods
Passenger seats removed
Racing fuel mixed in with pump gas
Runs done through OEM single exhaust & muffler. I like the car quiet.

Dyno details: http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showpo...85&postcount=1

*** 2/23/14 UPDATE ***

Headed out to the track this AM with nice 46 degree weather, 24psi boost, some race gas, and finally broke in to the 5s. No modern E series car has run faster. Including the built motor & supercharged M3s, large turbo gutted N54s, etc. It's amazing what ~600whp, a well setup vehicle, and good tuning can do.

Up next we'll be swapping the OEM trans out for a stronger level10 rebuild and slowly turn up the power wick assuming the new trans does as well as we expect it to.

Yes you can see where RPM becomes non-linear. Nothing a set of hoosiers won't solve though!

I've been speaking with Level10 and they claim they can build it, raise the stall, and provide a 6mo warranty on it. So that is the plan. But I'll take a stab at improving the 60-130 times on the OEM trans first. Frankly short term I'd rather keep the car running for the next few months so I can enjoy it even if I have to lower the power levels. As much as I want to get that mid 10 second slip with the car I like being able to jump in it and romp around when boredom strikes. And even at 17psi on 93 octane (~490whp) the car is a riot.

I also have FFTEC throwing together a motor for it so we can install that in along with the new trans when I'm ready to be without the car for a month or two.

So at what kind of power did you first see it slip Terry?

How does the RWHP level of this turbo on 20psi compare with the RBs? I believe 532-585whp range for the single, and the RBs were running in the 510-520whp range? I know the RBs were only a few mph off of 130 mph traps, so the ST should definitely push it in the 130-133mph range. Can't wait to see more test results! Perhaps when you do your next 60-130 in Mexico, get a soft launch qtr mile trap speed measurement. Or get both measurements on the same run!

If the trans would cooperate and the car was geared for it I'm sure at 600rw (~25psi) the car would be able to run 135mph. But yet it went 129mph at Famoso with ~520whp. And a best 60-130 of 7.3 on more slope.

Good to hear Terry. Rather than have your car down for this period, why not order a used grade A tranny (or lower grade since level 10 will rebuild anyways) for under $1000 and ship it to Level 10 for rebuild? http://www.car-part.com Credit to WedgePerformance for that link.
