Default If you were going to purchase a new X0,000.00 car today, what would it be? - 12-02-2017, 09:08 PM

Just curious what people think is comparable to our N54 in today's market. If you were thinking about replacing your aging N54 with something newer, what would it be in the given pricing brackets?

I have been looking at c7 z06 in the low 60s, I think I would still very much miss the interior quality of the bmw though.

Also, never would have thought I'd say this but I saw a 2018 Toyota camry today and it was actually impressive. The interior looked nice and the v6 comes with a bit over 300 hp from the factory at 34,000 new. I still would not buy it as I'd probably get bored with the power really quickly, but never less was impressed.

For me I'd get another m2 in a heartbeat, but that's because I don't care about high horse power straight line speed. I prefer driving experience. The Audi ttrs, mustang gt350r, Mercedes Benz class 45 amg are pretty nice too.

If you want high horse power I'd get an m5 (probably used to meet your sub 6 figure price tag), the gt350 makes some good numbers with a super charger, an m4, the list goes on lol. If you want interior quality the m4 and m5 is pretty nice. The c63s amg is a pretty sweet ride too.

There's nothing on the market which meets my criteria: large sedan, AWD, 300+ hp, standard transmission, reliable or easy to fix. My E60 535ix meets these criteria.

Most likely I'll need to compromise on transmission and get an auto/cvt

Bad experiences with VW/Audi rule them out. BMW's cost too much and drop too fast in depreciation to justify not buying slightly used.

Ford Taurus SHO maybe?

for me a DD needs to be :
  • capable of 500whp+ when moderately modded
  • RWD or AWD
  • >= TTV6, V8, or TT/SC V8.
  • relatively reliable/durable when modded
  • at least somewhat good-looking, not ugly
  • somewhat unique - not something that everyone else has. doesn't have to be a unicorn, but no dime a dozenMustangs/Camaro/etc.)

For me it is: Coupe, 6MT, 6+Cyl, Turbo, Smallish

Only thing (new) that really meets that right now is the M240i*

*skipped current M2 due to obsolete engine.

M240i would definitely be the right move!
C63 amg is one I'm looking at right now
S3 or RS3
used cayman S
Chevy SS is a really cool sleeper I think, they stopped making them but has a ton of potential!

Agreed on these. I looked at the Chevy SS, they even offered a manual the last year or two of production. I may end up with one of these at some point, but the thing is almost too sleeper, looks like a Malibu (which is not a great thing). I had a 04 GTO 6spd with heads/cam/LT's/etc. prior to my 535i, and while fun to drive and sounded perfect, it was pretty boring to look at.
I've always loved the idea of a cammed V8 sedan though ...

My top pick right now is the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio
That is most likely going to be what replaces my Lexus ISF at some point.

Yeah I know it really is almost too sleeper! I'm sure a nice set of wheels would do it justice. If I had a little more coin right now I probably would already have one. It's that or a C63. My american car friends would like to see me with a LS3 though. Simple is great sometimes

The problem I have with those is the interior, everything else is perfect though
