Default Turbo upgrade - 03-22-2018, 08:17 PM

One of my friends has a blown up turbo in his 335i n55.
He was thinking to upgrade the turbo from stock to kinugawa turbo which is as follows.
- 49.5 / 67.0mm (Billet 6+6 Blades)
(Stock Wheel 45.8 / 62.0mm)

How much whp increase should he expect over the stock?
Just an approx figure would be appreciated.

The stock motor is blown so it wont be accepted as a core charge.
The only option is going gor an own or the kinuhowa turbo.
Kindly suggest

Dear bro i think we are having a little problem maybe because english is not my first language.
Let me try to explain.
The stock turbo is blown up. Its of no use right?
Now the KN turbo will come packed just plug n play or you can say bolt on .
The problem with pure turbo is that they need the original turbo back or else they wont refund my core deposit which is 1500 USD.
So the pure turbo would cost me 2500 USD.
In case of KN there is no core deposit. I,ll just have to pay 850 USD without any core deposit and i,ll get my turbo delivered to me.

Kindly correct me if there,s something wrong in my understanding.

kn turbo only send you a cold side part of turbo and you need to keep using your oem turbofold. Same as PS1 be aware.

I,ve emailed them again.
I think they will send the complete turbo because the weight is 18 lbs and the packing is 33x23x28 cm.

What do you say?

My take on it:
1) It's unlikely they sell you the entire turbo kit (including turbine housing and manifold one piece) for just 850USD.

2) Compressor inducer 49.5mm seems not big enough, just about the same as EWG stock turbo (I measured it). Normally STG1 offering seem to have a 51~52mm compressor inducer. BTW, not sure how do know compressor exducer being 67mm, you cant see it without tear it apart.

My car is the hybrid version of 535i so i am 340hp stock.
How much gain should i expect with the following mods.
Kitenless
Charge pipe
Intake
Mission performance stage 2 tune
Stage 1 turbo.
93 octane with 2 bottles of NOS octane booster with every tank.

Will i be around 475hp ?

If you're going to bolt a heap of stuff on go straight PS2.

PS2 is far complicated than PS1.
I was just having an idea of the output of the car after the turbo installation. I guess it would be 450-475

What do you say?

I thought the Kinugawa (and others) only came in PWG; have I missed something?

And a few things that weren't included in the original testing:

* Meth
* PI
* Upgraded intercooler (that test used the stock FMIC)

I think breaking into the 470 range would still be a challenge; however, I would think 450 could be achievable, considering the items above.
