Seems like he topped out the aero of the 1 series about 177, just wouldn't pick up that extra 500 RPM to get him over 200. I don't have the balls to stay in it that long

you can actually see in real time the gas gauge going down and the oil temp go up. I assume it is pretty cold there due to initial oil temp. Also like that he used the blinker

I just can't imagine passing traffic and changing lanes so casually at 170+mph....

I wouldn't trust the 135's aero at 150 let alone 170+. I'm assuming he had the suspension and aero mods to handle this.

Maybe true... Mine felt OK at 170 on the stock aero but I wouldn't try to change lanes with it at that speed. Going forward I'll probably add some stuff to help keep it straight.

In Europe you stay on the right lane all the time (highways and city streets) unless you need to pass someone or turn left and if cops see you coasting on the left line you can get a ticket. Notice even bmw driver is trying to stay on the right line

German Autobahn totally normal!!! Changing lanes ain’t a problem just don’t jerk on the steering wheel lol...and yeah there could always be some one coming behind you even faster...it’s fun tho and less traffic death as over here bc you actually have to pay attention to traffic if not the pretty much run you over lol

It is pretty normal to drive over 200 km/h on German highways. And yes, they do keep the left lane always free, whether there is someone on your back or not. It is the law, and it is the way people are used to driving.
But going over 280 on a 2 lane Autobahn is way too risky as you're approaching the ongoing traffic way too fast and a driver ahead of you (doesn't have to be an old person) may not be able to calculate the time and speed you're approaching at and may jump on the left lane. And we all know, even if you have the best performance brakes and 6 pistons and whatsoever, at that speed, it is too risky. You risk your life and the life of others. I wouldn't mind if he's topping that speed on a 3-4 lane Autobahn when it is nice and free, but 2 lane is russian roulette.

My speedo is almost 10% fast, by comparison to roadside speed signs that match readings of other cars (VW, Dodge). Is this true for all BMWs?

Why would they switch off traction/stability control?

Yes, this is normal. There is actually an ancient BMW service bulletin that gives the percentage that it is off by. Obviously as speed increases, the variances between the indicated speed and the actual speed grow. They make the speedo read on the slow side to help BMW owners from getting speeding tickets. I had to produce copies of said bulletins multiple times for customers who complained about their speedos being “defective” back when I still was a tech at a dealer.

I just got here earlier in the fall with my E90. German laws and drivers are farrr better than the US. They truly adhere to keeping to the right except to pass. I absolutely love driving here. I didn't get out to a long stretch of the autobahn before the weather got worse but I was easily hitting 160mph with light traffic like the video above.
