Default What tires for wet grip - 01-29-2012, 10:02 AM

Was wondering what tires you guys are running and how the grip is wet and dry. Over here the roads are silly slippy in the winter and I was looking at buying a set of goodyear eagle F1 asymetric 2 as they seem to have amazing wet grip.

At the moment I cannot get anywhere near full throttle on the vredestein wintrac extremes I have on for the winter.

Desperately needing better rear grip to get meaningful logs for Terry

Also is there an ideal width for 19's? Weird how I seemed to get more grip with 235 18's than I do with 265 19's?

Dunlop Star Spec Direzzas; it rains hard here.
Of course we are a summer venue.

How about Continental DW? (not DWS)

I loved my Conti DWS in the rain. 950 miles in 1.5 days at 80mph cruise control set, never had a scary moment.

+10000

I've gone WOT in FBO + meth on slick roads with these tires, no fuss. (not recommended).

if you hydroplane though, no tire will save you.

Thanks for the replys guys. Cannot find those DWS or DW or dunlop tires in the UK so would be import only.

Chased an M5 today and both of us were struggling for grip and got sideways everwhere even on straight roads!

Looking at the DWS they sound ideal for me. May and we still have freezing temps and wet slippy roads! Snow on the hill too!! FFS its meant to be summer LOL

FWIW, Dunlop Direzza Star Specs come with a warning about not being used or stored in freezing or near freezing temps. They are awesome here in san antonio though

As was probably mentioned Conti DW's(NOT DWS) have excellent wet traction. Pilot Supersports from what I'm seeing are equal if not better, but the DW's were on an M3 and not a 335, could make a difference, maybe not.

I AutoX'd in 30 degree weather with a set on my wife's 09' Civic SI. They get super hard and feel like your driving on ice. On the same note, I daily during the summer and winter in Louisiana on them. They have the best wet grip of any tire that I've ever had and also make me feel super safe on curvy roads. I honestly can't think of a better tire.

I yank them off when the temps in ND start dropping and run snow tires.

Went for a set of Goodyear eagle F1 Asymmetric 2's and they are really really impressive. After having winter vredesteins on the whole car feels transformed. Feels sharper, grippier and much more feel as to what is going on. Wet road grip is very impresive but caution still needed in lower gears.

Noticed I have confidence to near full throttle overtake in wet conditions now without fear of sidestepping midway past lol

My Hankooks's handled the wet very well and no slipping or sliding! And great high speed traction. My Bimmer frequently stays in the 3 digits on road trips. They last a very long time.

MPSS has some of the best overall performace DD tire ratings available, with lots of independent testing done on them. I also like that they are bidirectional so you can still rotate staggered wheels. About the same retail price point as the StarSpecs but more expensive if you don't have a good tire connect. Ive had mine for 15k miles, almost all highway, and only chewed through 2.5/32nds of tread out of 10 total.

They are also a few LBS lighter per tire than the Dunlops of equivalent size. It is true that the StarSpecs tend to run a tad wider footprint though.

My old vehicle had Toyo Proxes? They seemed to handle wet very well. On the negative, by no means were they a high performance tire, nor idk if they are available in the dimensions you require. Also, after a little bit seemed to get a lil loud... Good life out of them also.
