JB4 N55 "TwinPower" Stage2 Tuning -
07-23-2011, 11:05 AM
Hey guys,
Just making this post as a location to place various Stage2 information as we have it. Stage2 is an upgrade to the N55 Stage1 kit that adds full can functions including smoother and stronger tuning, greatly improved turbo lag reduction, our industry leading in dash integration, code reading/deleting, DPFIX, meth integration, and much more.
JB4 Interface:Interface download. When updating your interface you may need to first go to "add remove programs" and "remove" your previous JB4 interface.
Interface changes: Changed some of the user adjustable variable names to better reflect their current uses. Lagfix has been updated to default wastegate position. Bogfix has been updated to Future Use E as it's no longer used for ISO firmware. Added N55 135/335 ISO default setting option.
If you need directions on how to connect a laptop to your JB4 to update firmware or log Click here.
Maps:
Map 0: Stock bypass. This is the only map you may use the OBDII diagnostic port with. Set to map 0 before dropping off for service, using a BT, etc.
Map 1: 12.5psi (suggested for most applications. The higher the octane the more power you'll make.)
Map 2: 14psi (suggested for those with a downpipe and 93 octane. May also require octane booster on top of 93 octane for optimal performance. We suggest NOS Race Formula w/ MMT.)
Map 3: Progressive meth mapping with flow sensor failsafe. See guide to enable. Meth use isn't supported/suggested without a flow sensor and map 3.
Map 4: Stock map w/ CAN active.
Map 5: Autotuning. Adjusts boost curve from 11psi peak to 16psi peak based on octane, mods, climate, etc.
Map 6: Custom tuning map.
Map 7: 16psi race gas map. 100+ RM2 octane race gas required.
Map 8: Reduced power mode / turbo disabled economy map. When switching back to a normal map car must be restarted to allow reduced power dash warning to clear.
General Notes:
1) Steering wheel controls menu attached. We will update the chart as new commands are added.
2) If you have an offroad race car with a downpipe the CAN Tool is no longer needed. Turn autoclear on in the JB4 by selecting option 1/3.
3) JB4 has cold/hot oil protection built in. So expect stock like boost until oil temps are > 160 degrees. Same goes for oil temps > 280 degrees.
Initially LHD 135/335. Then after release we will work on a special 135/335 RHD upgrade kit which will require a harness extender to place the Stage2 box in the RHD DME. Due to differences within their DME the 535, X3, X5, and X6 are not compatible with the Stage2 and there is no ETA or timeframe for adding them.
I made a post asking for help in this thread and I can't find it now. Where did it go?
Support requests and bug reports are generally deleted or moved from this thread without being read. If you require assistance from BMS email us at terry@burgertuning.com. Otherwise for forum support or general help me posts please take advantage of n54tech's support section.
What are the menu 5 gauge configuration options for?
The JB4 is defaulted to 335/535 USA mode. If you have a 135 or metric 335/535, you will pick the appropriate option to recalibrate the gauge read outs. Once selected the gauges will all center themselves at midpoint to let you visually verify if you've selected the proper mode.
How do I read codes?
There are two methods. The easiest method for beginners is to connect the laptop interface and use the "read codes" button as indicated in the image below. This will give a full listing along with descriptions. Alternatively for more advanced users or if a laptop isn't available you may use the in dash reading on menu 1 option 1. For additional directions click here.
How does the traction assist work?
If you find traction problems too severe in 1st and/or 2nd gear you can cap the maximum boost/torque achieved in those gears to aid with traction. You'll find them under user settings. A value of 10.0 in 1st and 12.0 in 2nd will limit boost to 10.0psi while in 1st gear and 12.0psi while in 2nd gear. When in 1st or 2nd gear under the boost limit you may hold down the steering wheel volume or talk button to bypass the limit while the button is held down. For example if doing a burn out at the track.
With the Stage 2, what are the differences between maps? Instead of using 10 psi or whatever in 1st and 12 psi or whatever in 2nd, what does it default to out of the box?
Not finalized yet so can't comment. But ultimately the map lineup will be similar to the JB4 for N54. Map 1 for pump gas otherwise stock, map 2 for downpipe/93 octane, map 3 for meth, map 5 for autolearning, etc.

So map 5 is ideal? or map 1 if we have stock car with 93 oct
It probably won't be open to the general public for at least a couple of weeks. We're doing local testing now and then will be expanding out. Once everything is checked off then we'll open up public alpha testing.
No, and we won't be supporting it. So get updated if you want Stage2.
I cannot get an update from my dealer for the DME until it is an open software campaign for my VIN. I am not sure if that's in 6 weeks or 6 months...and as far as I know there is no way to know.

Anyone here know?
I'm in the same boat. I'm in Orange County, CA...all the dealers want something like $300+ to update my DME. Shatty, I'd take you up on that offer if I were closer! Is there anyone in Socal with a connection at the dealer?

Do the map 6 test with Stage1 to verify if you need to update. If so, just keep running the Stage1 until you can.
I thought if you hold DSC off and instead of the little hazzard/circle signal in the display if you get what looks like a 135 doing a burnout that = new DME?
