Default Cordless Impact Driver - 03-08-2010, 03:37 PM

Recently saw an editorial in Road and Track about a Makita cordless impact gun. Currently i change my wheels with hand tools. Want to make my life easier . Can you guys recommend a good, resonably priced impact driver that's strong enough to handle the lugs on our cars?

Thanks.

I cant recommend one, but I can strongly recommend that you follow up with a TQ wrench after the gun.

I have tried several, the Snap On unit seems to be one of the best out there. It is invaluable at the track..

LOL, don't forget he said reasonably priced Snap On is awesome stuff though! I personally have and would recommend the DeWalt. I think mine was $299 with case, charger, and batteries. You will also need to purchase impact sockets, as standard sockets tend to stretch and can shatter.

Default Harbor Freight - Chicago... - 08-15-2010, 10:35 PM

The $70 Harbor Freight one is NOT strong enough, but I thought I was a smart guy after getting the badass low profile alum. jack from them.
Lesson learned.
Good ol crossbar works great, the cheap impact wrench is good after is already loose

low pro jack, jack stands with pads, Impact socket set, and ratcheting metric open ended wrenches work great!

instead of spending $300 for one, i ended up buying some drill adapters. use hand tool to loosen which is easy, then using the drill to take the sockets off. works pretty well as i really hated spinning 20 bolts lol

I have a craftsman one that was $199. It has gotten off everything that I need it to. Use it to put stuff back on, but I always check by hand tool after putting something back on.

I also use a drill to 3/8" adapter for my drill to remove the under body panels whenever working on the car. Makes the 21 bolt removal a lot better.

I have several...Snap-On similar to the one above, a Longacre bought at the track in a pinch but works well, and an Ingersol-Rand. Anyone of these will be fine for what you want.

The IR lasts the longest, and also has other tools you can buy like a ratchet and flashlight.
